Tracking webcams

Tracking webcams

I currently do my guitar lessons over webcam with a guy in Seville. I like to use an external webcam which I can mount of top of my TV and view the teacher on the big screen. Downside is either he is looking at either just my guitar neck, or, using my old static webcam, I have to manually adjust to see my face or anything else. Feels a bit anti-social.

I'm aware there are webcams aimed at conferences and meetings that can track various sound sources, but hey seem to be aimed at picking up different people, not objects. Bit of a long-shot, but anyone know of would be suitable for working out two profiles -
1 the guitar,
2 my head

Did you try backing away from the camera as to get both head and guitar in the frame??

Yes, but, guitar teacher struggles to see my hands on his laptop screen then. My webcam is 1080p too....

If you have two webcams, as it seems to be implied, and a little tablet or some small screen, you can train the first camera on your hands and the old static webcam on your face but send its signal to a little tablet or monitor which is in the frame of the one looking in your hands.

Or else set up a clever combination of mirrors. The idea is to project/transmit/reflect your face into the field of the camera looking at your hands.

Invest in a good webcam like the Logitech C930e or the new Logitech Brio. They have a 90-degree viewing angle, so it is much wider than normal webcams, and you'll be sure to get both hands and your face in the shot, and you can even get up to 4K with the Brio (if your device and connection support this). Make sure you have good lighting. Cheers!
