Yes, indeed. Stayingt at a B&B about 5 miles from downtown. Place is absolutely stuffed with Mexican folk art. Proprietor is an American woman with contacts among the artisans in the surrounding villages. Food downtown is fabulous.
At Teotitlan del Valle they buy raw wool from shepherds in the mountains. This couple and their 16-year old son clean, card, dye, spin and weave it. I bought the rug.

The alebrijes at San Martin Tilacajete began as simple small carvings in copal wood of the protective animals each person receives at birth, according to a complicated calendar formula. Then the Mexican surrealistic imagination took over. I didn't buy this jaguar--it would have taken over my whole house! But I did buy a couple of smaller pieces.
Jacobo and Maria Angeles are world famous. One of the best German art presses has printed three coffee table size volumes of excellent photos of their stuff.

For my part, Marta and I are spending Christmas at the Bavarian Inn, near shepherdstown, West Virginia. Fireplaces in our room and in the main dining room. Just finished Christmas dinner and polished it off with three glasses of port in the "Ratskeller" bar. Marta's Christmas gifts to me are two books: "A Gentleman in Moscow," by Amor Towls, and "American Ulysses," a biography of Ulysses S. Grant by Ronald C. White. Both first rate.
