For the Ebay savy members

Just looking for info on this.

I want to buy some AKG K701's.
They are 450.00 usd at most US dealers.

I found a pair on Ebay for 179.00 new in the box. Seller is in Hong Kong and has a 99.5 percent rating. Seems legit, but i am not savy on Ebay.

Should i try them out, or is this a scam? Why so cheap?

I've bought some audio equipment on eBay with great success but never at such a discount. My other hobby is growing super hot peppers and it's 101 in the hobby to never buy eBay seeds. A big deal on ebay is looking at how well rated the seller is and his whole history. There are great deals to be had on eBay but theres also a lot of scams. This guy appears to be fairly legit from what I can tell but I'd wait for some more senior ebay folk to weigh in.
My worst experience so far is buying vinyl from Spain, it takes MONTHS to get to me but it always comes eventually. Currently on 3 months waiting for a Cameron Y Paco vinyl.
Credentials: maybe 30 or so eBay purchases at 100% success.

Seems to be legit - he's had good seller feedback for over a year.

There were 75 of these headphones originally so he might have got a large discount.

Or perhaps they are 'seconds' with some minor defect - maybe you can contact him for more info.

Hmmm would be wary of anything Chinese for that cheap. They make some very convincing knockoffs at times.

Perhaps they're imitation - but sometimes imitation stuff is just as good as the real thing. I got some awesome imitation Russian military binoculars in China once. They were dirt cheep but the lenses were great.

I bought some Truefire P7 LED torches from Hong Kong on ebay. They were my main mountainbike lights through 4 years of pretty heavy use. One day at work whilst recharging the lithium ion batteries the recharger gave a loud bang, a flash, a puff of smoke and tripped the fuse of the whole corridor. No one was hurt though and I reckon I got my money's worth. Just orderred a replacement - again from Hong Kong via ebay.

One of the reviews indicates they are now made in China instead of Austria. The reviews touting the awesomeness of the product are older.......which doesn't mean these ones aren't as good.

Thanks for the replies!

Yeah, apparently AKG still makes the parts, but they are assembled in China.

From what i read, the quality control there seems to be very good.

I guess i'll find out soon! :)

I've seen legitimate stuff from Hong Kong sellers - virtually identical products that are not licensed for sale in the US market. Something simple like they don't meet the high standards of some gov regulation. I'm qurious to know how they sound!

Yeah, the AKG K701's are legendary headphones. They also made a pair called th Q701's which are the Quincy Jones signature model.

I will check back in when i get them and let you know if they live up to the legend. :)

I didnt see that price. Thats a good price, but standard shipping takes
up to 3 weeks.

I got the headphones today, and i paid 179.00. Exactly as advertised.

I think I tried the Q701's a while back but it was without an amp so it didn't really tell me much.
