Francisco Barba Maple Blanca 2011

Why sounds this guitar so sweet and incredible nice.
My wife says "This Blanca sounds more like a violin than a guitar"
The playability is superb.

The Trebles are very clear und loud. The Basses are not louder than the trebles and a little try.
The separation between al strings is perfect.
I don’t know other Baraba guitars but this one is outstanding!
Weight: 1380 g (ready to play)
Scale: 655mm
Bracing: Fan bracing with 8 Struts and cross grain seam reinforcement.
Top: German Spruce, 2,5mm in the center and under Fingerboard, 2,2mm at the surrounding, 2mm behind the bridge. Kerfed Linings (Mahogany)
Back: 2mm, Solid Linings, Beech wood
Sides: 1,8-2,00 mm
Action at 12: 2,3mm bass and 2mm treble (no rattle!)

If you want, you can find a "inside construction" video clip and a photo here on my dropbox.

Unfortunately the guitar is not mine, it belongs to a customer who bought a new guitar build by me.

Hi Markus,

Thanks a lot for posting this information, really inspiring!

I have a question: the fan bracing seems to be fairly high for a flamenco, especially the width/height ratio.

Did you do some measurements or have vague data about it?

Regards, Michael

Michael,

Yes I measure everything in detail.

The fan bracing struts are all 4mm wide.
The height starts from 3mm (e) to 5mm (E) nearly linear!

you mean that the braces are getting higher towards the bass E string?
That's an interesting concept, because usually most of the builders look for a stiffer treble side (for example Tom Blackshear's Reyes plan, all the slanted harmonic bar models...)
Or did I just get it wrong?

No sorry I am wrong.
The treble side is stiffer than the bass. Your are right!
It was a long day sorry!

Thank you for posting. One of the most informative and interesting thread I read.

By any chance, have you checked the doming of the top? Is the top dead flat or slightly domed transversely?

Dome is rather strong maybe 2,5 mm.
The lower harmonic bar is also domed 2mm.
You can see the dome up to the sound hole.
