A new foro member recently enterred our community with passion, wit and the incohierent blabberrings of one teeterring on madness that, for some, could pass as duende. But his masterpiece of an introduction thread has been blocked. What sayest thou?
RE: All the best threads get locked (in reply to Dudnote)
He was tedious, maybe an assassin too.
I wonder what kind of fun Ron would have had with him. But hey, maybe we should try to be more business like for a few days. I have noticed a little uptick in regular flamenco topics. We might even and up talking about cante' on of these days ad attracting some more aficionados who actually know about the the stuff.

If you mean all the best threads are entertaining in a passive-aggressive non-flamenco way, then you are right, they get locked, sorry about that. And please don't test me by voting on my moderation decisions. It is not the time.

I'll give you passion maybe. But to be honest, I didn't notice anything extraordinary in terms of wit and I know absolutely no one who would call that "duende". An introduction that, wilfully or not, insults almost everyone on the forum hardly seems to be a masterpiece to me... In the meantime, I'm not sure what your intention with this is, creating an off-topic poll 'n all precisely when the off-topic section is locked. Perhaps put a little trust in the fact that the moderator knows what he's doing, PM him if you're upset and open your own forum if you're really upset ? Anyways, sorry but I'll politely abstain from voting on this one.

Yeah, same here. So I´m not voting. But if Admin (escribano) is getting tired of things here it makes me think. He has held up to really tough times during the 13 years we´ve been here. Has been very patient and is absolutely not known for over-moderating this forum.
So maybe we should just show admin our respect, chill out and concentrate on flamenco threads for a while.

I'll not be casting a vote because I don't consider the thread in question even remotely among the best (locked or unlocked); because the incoherent ravings of the "frustrated crossover guitar player" lacked even a scintilla of wit; because he had no intention of following the advice he appeared at first to be requesting; and because he appeared to want to flaunt his ignorance of flamenco (e.g., Django Reinhardt played flamenco, and he learned flamenco technique from the blues singer/guitarist Big Bill Broonzy).
The "frustrated crossover guitar player" was not a serious interlocutor, and he wasted a lot of Foro members' time who wanted to help him, not with passion or wit, but with his adolescent drivel.

Its just that the questions made by beginners and people of that ilk are always the same...its not their fault ....cos they dont know ...
maybe there should be some sort of guidance reading stuff for new members to avoid going around in circles ... again ...
I did not see passion ... or wit ... i saw,, sorting his own stuff out , not taking advice and avoiding the main flamenco points .... as always ... methinks
I trust Escirbano's judgment ..if I didnt I wouldnt be here....

Agreed in most cases, but not this one. He spent most of his time mounting challenges, as if he already knew what other Foro members did not.
Personally, I have never had a problem with Simon locking a thread, even one in which I am participating if it is getting out of line. I must say, though, that I would like to see the "Off-Topic" category reinstated. I find it hugely interesting that there are so many flamenco enthusiasts with such varied backgrounds and interests. I don't see that flamenco topics and "Off-Topics" are mutually exclusive. Participation in one does not necessarily lead to lack of participation in the other. And both can be interesting, just as both can be boring. But that's just my take on it.

Sadly, it does appear to. I have been running some stats on the data:
• Up to Jan. 2014 off-topic posts accounted for 9.5% of all posts • Since Jan. 2014 , off-topic posts were 15% of all posts • In the last 3 months alone, off-topic posts are running at 16.7% of all posts
So we are talking less about flamenco and I would like to reverse that trend. As would others here.

Agreed. Even without knowing the statistics, it was obvious.
Maybe one day when we have all turned true flamenco pasionates again the off-topics section will come back and we can talk about the weather, politics and our other passions. I may even upload a fiddle tune or two and a picture of a homemade boat.

Yeah, me too, but I like hard data and the trend is significant.

I would like that. I enjoy your contributions immensely.
