I am learning to paint

Been following some YouTube courses for a couple of weeks, using acrylics on canvas however I recently discovered an iPad app called Procreate, which means I can do quick studies without all the fuss of the studio.

I have always been fascinated by the Old Masters, since living in Amsterdam, and see it as a natural regression from photography to really try to understand light, form, composition and colour.

Here is my attempt at metal/silver/pewter with reflections, from life. The app allows me to record the process, so there is a time-lapse video of how it was done.

Feedback is always welcome.

Wow, the metal imaging is truly something!

Unfortunately, the background doesn´t match the level shown with the cup.
It is uneven, with the outlining giving away too obviously. And its brightness is too homogenous to ressemble natural conditions.

Also it appears to me as if there was a slight perspective flaw with the base of the cup. As if it was a tad too much tilted towards viewer. - All things that can still be touched up.

But again your observation of the shimmer on the metal surface has been remarkable. That is definitly a tough task.

Cool. Of course, you had to start painting as well. Creative people have to create and learn.

Impressive! Though that may not mean much coming from me... It's pretty easy to impress someone who can't even draw a stick figure!

But I'm always amazed at how people can use different shades of color to create different effects. Very nice.

Simon, the metallic sheen and reflection off the cup does lend an "Old Masters" touch to it. Can a Vermeer be far behind? Bill

Nice!!!

A friend of mine who teaches art spends a lot of time with these sorts of aps and generates some remarkable work on them - with the zoom functions the amount of detail he can build in to the pictures is fantastic. He likes to plays back animations of their creation stroke by stroke to entertain our kids. One of his favorite subject matters are all the fine details he finds in various bars

That image is not actually a painting, but a computer painting program ?
