RE: A question about social anxiety (in reply to Piwin

Juan, just out of curiosity, when was the last time you performed in public?

If you are anything like me, you probably build things up in your mind too much. I don't usually have social anxiety (more often social boredom ) but I do tend to dread performing.
I just assume that as soon as I get on stage I will panic, and somehow spontaneously combust, even though that has never happened before.
And then, as soon as I actually get in that situation, it's the opposite of how I think it will be. I'm nervous at first, but exhilarated at the same time, and focused.

I also find that different stage setups induce anxiety in widely varying levels. If it's a theater, with the audience dark and far away, it's great, and it's very easy to be inspired in the moment. But if it's in a fluorescent lighted library with a bunch of kids sitting 2 feet away from you, anxiety city

Here is the thing Andy... I'm not sure if playing at private parties is considered performing in public. Well, i guess it is but you are mainly in the background with lots of noise. Once in awhile you'll get a few listeners but not really the same thing as playing on a stage. It probably was a few months back since I played at a private party... It's not really a big thing honestly but the nerves and anxiety certainly kicked in when I played for the Clintons at the restaurant where I was normally playing. I wish i had what you get(social boredom)....I tend to agree with you as far as having different stage setups inducing anxiety on different levels. Oh well, i just have to manage it in the best possible way.
