By the time you finish it, that guitar will be too heavy with all that metal.

For a first guitar isn't easier to bend the sides by hand over a hot pipe?
I have to do it, so just asking.

The shape of your guitar looks nice. You avoided flat spots.

Good to see a fellow Futurama fan here! My user name is a reference to the show.

Some nice wood. Did you get it from Espen?

How is your neck joint made? I fit the neck first marking where the the sides need to be. Then I fit the sides, Glue the neck, then glue the sides. If that makes sense. you can kind get a sense of how I do in the student build thread I made a while ago here's the link.

Thanks Hibari, it is a fast way to work and can feel quite scary at times like, did I forget something? It has taken many years of practice to pull it off. These days I guess building a guitar comes easier to me than writing.

Building like that is fairly Spanish I would think I think the whole process is what makes it Spanish though. Wedges are an easy way to get a clean join at the heel. It seems easier to me than one 2mm cut that has to be perfect every time.

Best of luck with the sides this eve!

RE: Hey all ! Finally building a guitar. (in reply to Guest

Hi Hibari,

Ok so this brings some interesting ideas into play that can help keep get the depth but it depends on how deep you want it and the depth of you bindings. I actually had to use part of the technique in my student build thread. I used spacers in between the top and the sides to create a gap between the sound board and the sides. This will get you back around 0.5mm of the depth of your bindings.

So in my case I used 6mm bindings so I managed to find 5.5mm by using spacers. I had 3.5mm spacers on top of my 2mm top (5.5mm). I glued my peones in and removed the spacers once they had dried and added more to fill the spaces. That was enough for me.

You could effectively add a similar amount of extra lining to the sides and get an extra 5.5mm (if using a 6mm binding) making your guitars depth 91mm. Which isn't that bad I would say. My flamenco guitars max depth is 95mm so not far off that really.

Of course changing the sides would be easier though.

Any way hope that helps

No problem I usually check the foro at lunch. I guess you posted at your lunch an hour before mine!

Here's the way I would see that. As long as that edge is going to be closest to the back of the guitar the lining will hold that crack no problem. It is not that big a crack I would squeeze some titebond in there and clamp it up not too tight but enough to close it. then work with it as if there is nothing there.

The only issue is that you may still see evidence of the crack in the finished guitar and that is entirely up to you. I would not use it for a guitar I was selling but would use it if I was making it for myself as it would definitely fixed.

Also check the other side for the same defect. It's unusual to see a crack like that caused by bending.

Well with a little bit of luck, even you won't be able to see it! I've repaired guitars like that before and couldn't find the break after the refinish.
