So, strings on and totally out of tune :)

Looks great! Specially the curved section on the upper right part. Lovely sculpturing!
All in all sure tempting to sit down with it and mess around a bit.

Though not in tune yet, does it give that roomy / reverberating sound field one is used to hearing from records?

How does a harp stand? Must one worry a lot about accidental tipping over?
What´s the rough cost for a set of strings?

I see myself different with a harp. More like long white hair and beard, loose cotton or hemp clothing and playing introvert modal stuff and maybe singing a bit. Or maybe sitting in front of spanish supermarket with a dog like my avatar and a hat on the floor.

The harp is finished. It has been French polished with a few layers, and left silky. Its very nice to touch.... silky.

Ruphus, harps stand like you see on the picture and if you push it hard enough it will tip over. People worry differently, so I dont know if you would worry about it. I dont.
The strings for this one was around 85,-€ and it sounds and vibrates EXACTLY as your favorite harp records.

That looks so sweet. Probably plays a bit more like a piano than a guitar I would guess.
It looks like it would be right at home in an enchanted garden with the gnome, hedghehog, etc.

Its best to wait a little while with levers untill the harp has settled and found its shape, if not it might not tune to well. I´m not going to add a full set of levers but maybe F and C levers.

I think its closer to a guitar than to a piano because you pluck the strings. But it has its own magic.

Since its tuned in C major (the white keys on a piano keyboard) its very good for studying modes and feeling what the different modes do. I´m very used to Mixolydian, Dorian and Phrygian modes (Ionian (major) and Aeolian (natural minor) as well) and know what they do to me, what mood I get into, but modes like Locrian and Lydian modes are new to me and specially Locrian gets me all spaced out.

This looks very impressive - especially for your first harp, Anders. If you take it to Ireland can we get a video of it being played by some red-haired, green-eyed girl in a pub, or will you learn enough to demonstrate it yourself?

Please dont bring it to Ireland .. it was Paddy day yesterday ,, and I have an overdose of , harp , tin whistle , dancing , and guiness....
wait a few months at last ....

FYI ..red haired not so common , thats in Scotland ...here the Jackeens have Black hair and very white skin ...usually light blue eyes ...lots of songs about them .. of course .....

On second thoughts yes ....red haired is what you need ...take it to Scotland ..

Anders,
Wow, what a cool project. I remember when I started my lessons at our conservatory, I was waiting for my lesson when a woman rolled a rather large Harp into a practice room next to where I was sitting. For the next 10 minutes or so I heard this beautiful music being plucked from that instrument. It sounded "heavenly" if that is even a proper term. I struggle with six strings, can't imagine plucking all those on a Harp!

weigh +80 kilos and have a right uppercut that sends you KO for a while.

The harp is celtic style, but its a bit small to be a real irish trad harp. It has 26 strings and Irish trad harps are normally in the 33 - 36 string size.

This is what is called a "therapy harp" the size is used to bring to hospitals, hospices etc. to help patients relax and cure themself via their inner peace.

But maybe I can find a tall blond midage scandinavian woman that will play it while she sings her ooooooooooommmmmmmmm

My ex-wife, a Scandinavian blue-eyed blonde, and I disappointed my Scottish mother. She said she had hoped for a blue-eyed fair skinned brunette, but we presented her with a brown eyed and brown haired granddaughter and grandson, each bearing an alarming resemblance to me, though inevitably better looking.

Then you either have to be very patient or come by and try it yourself. I occasionally play it a bit, but i strongly prefer the fiddle. But its a nice piece of art deco in the living room.
Now that its getting warmer, i might start sitting out in the patio and play it some more. Its very relaxing and good for my soul, but left hand arpeggios are difficult for someone who has only used the left hand for fingering
