New stuff flamenco influenced by

Hi folks!

Been thinking about this for a while. I hear and can tell abit that other music genres such as latin and jazz has influenced flamenco music. Talking about modern flamenco here and to be more specific the work of PDL.

It's still flamenco but I listen to the music and I can feel there's new stuff been added here and there but not able to talk about it you know.

So I'd appreciate it if the experts here could explain it to me and tell me for sure what are those added elements that made flamenco music what it is today. Where do they come from? Brazilian music, other latin styles, jazz..?

In order of significance IMO:

1. synchopation
2. dynamics and phrasing.
3. from brazil styles, certain voicings of ii-V-I moves coupled with 1 and 2 above.
4. Modulation away from and back to tonic using secondary dominants.
5. From jazz minor third modulations and melodic minor mode usage.
6. also from Jazz the occasional chart/improvisational structure concept in place of falsetas.

If you want specifics and detail it will take too much time, there is plenty in archives.

Would you mind if i asked you to give me some examples of brazilian musicians whose work you think has been most influential?

I see that it would take too much time. I'll look in archives, but it would be great if someone could point out to me a certain thread on topic that might come to mind where this has been discussed enough.

Thanks Ricardo, that was good summary.
One of the best parts in flamenco (I don't know about the cante) is that it can always expand and the best musicians such as Paco de Lucia and Gerardo Nunez can take influences from other types music and make it sound really flamenco, it's incredibly challenging to create something new today, but we are lucky to have some legends still living, I can only wonder what will change in 10 years...

It's though funny to hear from non flamenco or even new flamenco guitarists to say it is closed music and limited to phrygian.

Guess it goes back along way before this - Paco's 'tico tico' is a well known brazilian choro

Baden Powell and Garoto would have had a far reaching influence
