Oh lord, I made that guitar (that's the ancient Kauri). I wish I could say I did that on purpose. lol
The image was altered by Ruphus. He highlighted the part in the middle, before it just blended in to the back.

Whose guitar-making shop is pictured here with the guitar with the interesting back?

Andy--
I meant no disrespect. It is a beautiful back and a beautifully made guitar. Nice workshop, too.

but now you are onto something ... you can choose wood to make different symmetrical images ,,,,as part of the overall greatness of the guitar ...maybe a bit less porn and more flamenco next time ...

Where did the friendly couple go? Are they on (the) top of the guitar now?

With a side-view light and grain direction will display book-matched sides in different ways.

If you want to know where the ancient couple went you need a topview like with the original photo.
Comparing side by side with the emphasized image will reveal the picture in the grain structure.

Can you see it, Sr. Martins? :O)

And on a side note about occasional qualities of scientifical findings:
Yesterday there was note on scientifical observations on alignment to earths magnetic fileds. Researches on how grazing and resting cattle and even gold-fish and insects had been found to allegedly be aligning themselves to such power fields.

With the commenting professor finally advicing like: "If some feng chui or other specialist was to recommend to you to turn your bed around in order to align to the magnetic field, don´t forget to move your house and maybe the whole of place as well, so that you can follow the constantly shifting magnetic field." hehehe

- Don´t get me wrong, science definitly is the superiour road sign to me.
But neither have we overcome the weakness of personal bias even among personel in the scientific field, nor settled on a scientifical certainty that could safe us from steady changes of insight.

Hmm... without the enhancement it looks like the giant vulvas that these exotic woods usually depict.

I guess it must have to do with the degree of a painter´s eye.
I can see the structure even still in the side-view picture.
Quickly drawn on it with a very hard to control mouse curser, but one should be able to figure the silhouette.

I can often times make out accidental structures on yet the most ordinary patterns, even on things like woodchip wallpaper. Often times amazingly perfect shapes ( of all sorts and motifs, - not only of the kind like on above example), unlike with this case where the guy´s body has come out rather awkward.

The shape is still there but the vulva jumps at you before you notice the couple.. at least for me.

With all the wood masturbation happening here I thought you might need some personal lube:

http://www.goodvibes.com/content.jhtml?id=How-To-Choose-A-Lubricant

Yeah I bought some wood from a guy, then I bought some more. Then I bought some more. Then I kept buying wood and after a while is was not so exciting to talk about buying wood. Actually it was never exciting at all.

If you guys keep talking about wood you're going to get a rash.

I suppose it is better than hearing about someone's incredibly misinformed and boring socio-political world view, so carry on !

RE: Andaman Islands Padauk (in reply to Andy Culpepper

It would be awesome if you guys were actually saying anything useful about wood. But talking about vulvas and making 5th grade double entendre, maybe kind of ....well far be it from me to say what is proper.

It's really no mystery why more women don't make musical instruments. Especially guitars, which seems to be mostly a 'wood jock' activity.

Wood threads are either about:

"Oh hey I bought this awesome wood, it's the same wood everyone else can buy I'll start thread about it and talk about it like it's my own new discovery like I am the Christopher Colombus of the guitar making world."

Or:

"Oh Hey, I bought this wood and I think it is a new discovery and I am a genius and a NASA space explorer level wood discoverer, I will write an article about this wood because even though it can be bought at Home Depot, it should be widely known that is is the secret of Stradivari himself and hush hush but I AM MAKING GUITARS OF THIS RARE ( but really common wood) AND THE WILL BE SUPER SPECIAL SO ORDER ONE NOW!"

Or

"Oh Hey, I just bought some wood and the Latin name is SUPER PENIS ROBUSTA GEVERTSRAMINER VIAGRASOUNDUS! It is super bad ass. Have you ever played guitar made with SUPER PENIS ROBUSTA GEVERTSRAMINER VIAGRASOUNDUS! Because if you have not played on a SUPER PENIS ROBUSTA GEVERTSRAMINER VIAGRASOUNDUS! guitar then you should order one from me. Because my SUPER PENIS ROBUSTA GEVERTSRAMINER VIAGRASOUNDUS! guitar are best."

So the three variants are:

1. I discovered this awesome, but quite common wood.
2. I discovered this awesome, but quite common wood.
3. I discovered this awesome , but quite common wood, but in this thread we will say the Latin name over and over so people will think we are scientificial and smarty.

Then after 30 masturbatory posts about how I single handedly cross the Atlantic Ocean in a 12' foot row boat to purchase this rare Icelandic Rosewood- I discovered this awesome new Icelandick Rosewood wood, then the sex jokes come out.

anyway....Good Vibes to you all.

No it's not all good, I'm bored with sexual jokes about guitars. I only brought it up to parody the boringness of it.

Serious you guys act like women can't read. the foro is boring in part because women never come here, it's like a fricken gay bar. AND ~ You got one guy who who can't keep this politics in his pants and wags his social conscience wiener out at every chance, and we've seen his wiener for five years, we don't want to look at that little wiener anymore.

Then every time woman joins up she gets shouted down by some guitar players. "Hey bitch I started playing guitar last month and my goddammned thumb nail is longer than yours so you just keep it quiet about your nail salons"

Ehehe

I keep reading about women getting mistreated here but I've never seen that, specially not in the way you're mentioning it.

Either way, I couldn't care less if we have women, gay guys or aliens over here. To me they are all avatars that write stuff that I might enjoy reading... or not. I think it should work the same way about what I write even if it bores you to death for whatever reason.

As I've said, the foro is getting pretty slow and if some of us are having fun without attacking anyone, what's wrong with that? We could be doing far worse.

Then you're not looking at what you are writing. Posting vulva jokes is offensive to women, the discourse is off course.

Like I said you guys act like women can't read. You don't have to blatantly attack a woman in a post to offend, but some of you don't have particularly subtle minds in this department so you miss that point.

Try walking into a dance class with your guitar in hand sit down to play for the class and then start telling vulva jokes to the women in the dance class. See how fast the teacher kicks your ass out the the door. This Foro is open to the public, it's the same as a dance class.

Women can read, believe it or not.

Well, I don't buy into that analogy between the internet and a dance class. Typing stuff into the internet isn't the same as being in a room with people but maybe that's due to the way we perceive things.

Women have facebook and other social networking gizmos... there's waaaay dirtier stuff there and people just... move on, unless they want to pay attention.

When Iam not into something, I just don't post and move on with my life. I easily accept everyone here and truly believe that if we all stopped being so judgemental and let go of the apparent need to take sides on "fights/attacks/subjects/etc", then we could all get along and women would come.

If you really believe that women don't find the foro attractive solely because of small sex jokes... ok then, let's stick to guitar building and playing, women love that stuff.

Or... should we all start dancing and talking about shoes and dresses? That should get them!

Seriously, are we here because of "us" (the ones who...are here) or there's somekind of hidden goal here?

There is profoundness; there is superficiality. And when the latter wants to dress like the first it might come in weird contortion like Stephen´s partially incredibly informed incongruency.

Not that I would advocat things like genitals talk, but Stephen´s posted attitude reveals how he has not even noted psychological basics like of the stuff Erich Fromm tought the public about decades ago.
Apparently not guessing how he is showing trivial and intellectual envy in above comments.

It´s a pity. I think he could live with his actual talents and be fine. No need to feel that vulnerable.

Ruphus

* - Oh and: Stephen might not be overcoming another lack of understanding, which he exposed when insisting on that Kauri was to be gum tree. ( Whereas it is a connifer.)
It could however ordinarily / partially explain why he is getting his knickers in a twist when seeing this wood mentioned.

RE: Andaman Islands Padauk (in reply to Andy Culpepper

But Facebook is not a boys club the Foro is one now. Women don't like to be out numbered by men in situations where there is sexist conversation. On Facebook there is about equal men to women ratio and women generally feel safer when the proportion of males to female is more equal.

As far as having an agenda? Yes I have agenda, it's about not using sexual metaphors or innuendo to describe guitars or guitar making to the point that it turns off women.

The problem with with ignoring and not posting on this subject is that is keeps getting pushed under the rug and that perpetuates the locker room sex joke culture. Sometimes it's not good enough to just pass by posts you think are wrong. I believe in terms of women's harassement or even mild sexist issues to stay silent is to become complicit. I'm not complicit and don't confuse that with some type of self serving agenda.

I think women would participate more if people stopped making jokes which overly sexualize guitars. A little is ok, right, but to go on and on, no. If you don't like the dance class analogy try this one:

If a female were working my shop ( and I have worked in shops with women who did guitar repair work) and someone went on and on about guitars and female body parts I would tell them to stop doing it. If they did it twice I would tell them to leave. If a woman is reading this section it is the same as being in a guitar shop with a bunch of men.
