For the record, I'd be massively disappointed if discussion regarding other musical genres would be restricted. I am not exclusively a flamenco guitarist, and personally I'd be less inclined to make postings on the forum if it were flamenco-only.

I think this is pretty simple and see no need to beat around the bush. Apparently there is one poster that a lot of the members do not want around. If so, get rid of him. It's your prerogative.

Creating new rules about not posting about classical guitar or politics or cats is, to my mind, unnecessary and counterproductive. There is already a ridiculous amount of insularity and conformity without making rules to require it.

EDIT: sorry, Simon if that feels directed toward you or overly negative. We all owe you a lot for this place.

As a performer of both classical and flamenco, I find your comments about Delcamp inappropriate and stereotyped. I guess you're not familiar with the Delcamp Forum, or you could not have said such things.

Delcamp is an international forum with about as many members as we have, and three times as many posts. Demographically, they represent a diverse group, a true cross section, all ages, all occupations, and in every way probably correspond very closely to the demographics of Foro Flamenco.

Moreover, in my experience the majority of classical guitarists also have an interest in flamenco guitar, and in fact many members of Delcamp, myself included, are also members of Foro Flamenco.

I can assure you there is nothing "stuffy and uptight" about classical guitarists or classical guitar.

Agreed. But just try posting say a comparison of Aniello Desiderio's recording of Paco's Terantas and one by the master just as a point of interest as I did and run for cover. .

This is a flamenco forum, established for the discussion of flamenco.

I have had complaints about a number of offensive threads and posts. Mostly, these are in the off-topic section, but not always.

These comments are public and do not reflect well on our community, they dilute the forum and discourage others from engaging.

Please make the effort to indicate your preferences in this poll. You can choose more than one option. I'll run this poll for a couple of weeks and then see where we are.

Unfortunately, I have always seen this problem as a simple nature of the internet and the people that use it often. Admin here already doing too much work for what is needed (IMO) and this (any choice from above voting list) will create even more. The "complaints" are also a part of the problem. "ew, I refuse to participate in THAT forum..." etc. It never ends. I am not saying it should be a free for all here of course. But it is already a community of such the regular posters, and even after several posts of a newcomer, it is revealed the personality of each, and the same old same old keeps coming and gets quite predictable. But that is just how people are. At the same time we want general respect as if we are all strangers first time meeting....there also needs to be flexibility of new comers or casual infrequent members accepting long standing personalities. That is ALSO a form of respect. If ice cold conforming guidelines govern this place, much of it's personal charm will be lost.

I admit, after many years here, certain "abrasive" on the surface members are absolutely charming as I wait for them to chime in with the predictable response. Lets be totally honest... this voting thing here is because of RUPHUS? of all people...and the people taking it as such a new taboo thing going on within the topic getting bent out of shape....and doitsujin with shock comedy....REALLY? If you want, give me a topic and I will compose the entire thread of responses of each member on the list.....I can understand it takes time to get used to personalities if you are new here, but, as I said, I think it is also respectful to put in the time to see what is going on with everybody. In other words, don't expect to get away with underhanded insider comments or baits without timely retorts, then cry "oh the guidelines the guidelines, ban him!!". There is plenty of archive that new people can figure it out faster than simply contributing. And sure, there will be very difficult individuals that of course need the boot.

Look, I've got nothing against classical guitar, I've got Andres Segovia, John Williams, AND GRISHA's interpretations in my phone RIGHT NOW. I don't hate delcamp, I don't hate the people on delcamp but the poking around there I've done it feels a little stuffy to me.........

I feel like there's some hypersensitivity going on here.......how 'bout I bash myself to make people feel better. Beards are lame, metal music is just noise and atheists are cynical pessimists......

If this thing is purely personal.....an attack on those who dare to type , then let's see the wood from the trees.... let's have everyone lay their cards on the table...warts and all ....let's be totally transparent and have a selective ''foro'' for all....
That would be a'' pile ''of biblical proportions ( need to keep the religious twist hey)
If people want certain people out ,then have the b ollocks to say it.....then we can all watch our beloved ''foro''dismantle itself at every turn till all we have left is a list of pre owned guitars for sale and a list of internet names nobody wants to contact......hell they may be OK people who just can't spell but wtf we've cleaned em/it up.

As we seem to be debating it here and not just voting...I think I'm clearer about the dogs. You're right I don't need to read it. But I'd use facebook for that so I didn't see the need. Just not the insults. **** those ****ers....

You probably need more moderators. There was one guy a few months ago. He came into town. Issued a warning. Then he was gone. I ain't never seen that man again. His name...had a number in it.

On personalities, I'm not going to name anyone, it's invidious, but I think one guy was banned because his English was so bad. He was no more a problem than many others. To me.

RE: ** Changes to the Forum [PLEASE ... (in reply to Escribano

I voted to keep the "Off Topc" section with "No more personal attacks or rudeness." Civilized discourse should be the norm on the Foro regardless of the section to which one contributes comments. And that goes for all sections. Some of the most offensive comments, including personal attacks, have appeared in the "Lutherie" and "General" sections. Would we ban those sections? Of course not. Netiher should the "Off Topic" section be banned.

Personally, I enjoy reading of others' experiences and travels. And I enjoy discussing politics, science, and other topics, too, as long as the discussion is kept at a mature level. We are not just flamenco aficinados; many on the Foro are well-rounded, multi-faceted individuals who love flamenco, but have many other interests as well. I appreciate reading about someone's take on a particular aspect of flamenco in the "General" section, and then turn to the "Off Topic" section to read that same contributor's take on politics, economics, parallel universes, black holes, string theory, and the ultimate fate of the cosmos.

I would hope that all Foro members would recognize that "No more personal attacks or rudeness" is just common sense and civilized behavior. Nevertheless, I would like to see it strictly enforced. Perhaps the drill should be: One violation of this rule receives a warning. The second violation results in the violator being banned from the Foro.

If you remove off-topic section it will be impossible to talk about any style but flamenco.

I disagree ,, of course you could talk about any other guitar technique , harmony or music in terms of flamenco .. or from a flamenco point of view ...
classical Vs flamenco tremolo ....how many times has that came up ? its not 'off topic ''

jazz harmony in flamenco .. not of topic ... and tons more as you know ..
I dont see the flamenco snobbery ....flamenco is as wide as you want it to be ....and so still on topic ....
I still think its a case for forum moderators to make the calls ....

just have a look at the titles right now in the off topic section ......lets see what there is .....

F*** the rich......i have not read this , but the title is a great example of unnecessary swearing (shock ) and insults to follow .. no doubt someones good rant and rave , and yet 64 replies .. or compliants ... ?/ if I were a moderator I would have looked at this one

My journey into the blues #6 Progress?......Ban this poor misguided non-flamenco guy straight away ....

Bodyguarding Cat Tara ......again dont know ...wrong forum ?/

Amplification weirdness .... i dont think this is really off topic .. many people here trouble with noise from various sources while recording/ playing etc ... maybe move to ''recording advice '' section ....

and so it goes on ... these would all be moderators choice In my opinion ...

I voted only for the "personal attacks" one.

All is fine for me as long as people don't engage on personal fights. Once or twice is ok but I see some grudge here that seems to be lasting for years.

I have no personal anything with anyone, even when Iam "attacked" for some reason.

Rudeness and sex is something I save for Lenny.

Aeolus, I think you left your favourite spoon petruding from the arse cheeks of your latest victim!

Talking of victims, insults and current topics I must say I'm feeling adequately
violated by this whole thread....the instigators of which appear to be having their day.
If it comes to a telling off and subsequent banning, then that's the domain of the admin team....this worm can has been opened and allowed to fester for too long....Simon over all control has to be yours.....if ''out'' then you must in future feel it prudent to administer
final power ...don't ask for comments or opinions just do what you've done in the past....End Of
I don't see how ,at this juncture any member can justifiably be binned from the ''foro'' its too obvious and would be wrong.....can't things be left as are with you ultimately calling the shots....one warning then out??
I look at all who contribute to this highly addictive and quite wonderful forum....so many diverse characters and opinions ,often worlds apart ,but all obvious enough in their contributions ,be them small or large to be a meaningful part of what you have created.
An analogy perhaps if that's the correct term.
Adam,Eve, Garden Of Eden ,Snake and an Apple?

I wouldn't want to be in your shoes with this but have seen enough of the substance of the foundations of this forum to know you will make the right choice in the end.

Sorry escribano, my personality has always been to always say exactly what i'm thinking and to always be honest. I do offend people a lot of the time; unintentionally though. It's a part of my personality that cannot be changed, it's too much effort to try and rethink the way i say something to make it less offensive. It's much less effort to just be totally direct and honest. I always try to look at the underlying root of things as well; when i see a commercial...i don't say OHH WOW WHAT A GREAT PRODUCT!!! I say, hrmm another person trying to sell stuff...i am not influenced by commercials and etc. whenever i want something, i do research on the topic and choose the best of my findings. like buying proper car wash products and etc. i try to find unbiased reviews and base my decision on that; but even that is really hard to find and most are influenced by sponsors and etc. See i've gone off on a tangent, i'm already here and it's too much effort to even realize what my point was and how i'm actually relating it to this post.

Actually , i was just having a little look around the foro and notice , unlike some places . there are no rules posted on the home page , or link to read them ....
If so then it is difficult to not cross a line that is no unclearly defined . perhaps start by having some ' rules or ' guidleines so we can better see what we have done as we offend those that offend us .....

But also i believe, any person who spends any amount of time on the internet; will eventually find some offensive material very quickly; but in the end...it's their decision to participate in it or not. There are also a lot of trolls on the internet....and strong headed people who will never see any other way than their own...perhaps i am one of those but at least i won't keep an argument going for arguments sake...it's an impossible battle to win and stupid.

You can try to sensor those type of threads on this foro but that person will run into it again somewhere else. it's their decision to participate or not.

My opinion is that: If a thread is getting out of hand, lock it. but people shouldn't expect you to be reading every new post and wasting so much time finding all of the offensive material etc. You need to have a flagging system that will tip you off to something so you can look it over in 5 minutes and not waste too much time. Maybe there is already one in place, idk.

Banning all political discussion would remove Spanish politics, which has had, and potentially still has, an impact on Flamenco and of course life in Spain generally.

I’d be quite happy if other political discussions were banned, though.

PS i don't view the videos i posted in that thread to be political. I view them to be the reality of what is going on. and people should know the truth about what's going on, the truth is ugly but that doesn't mean you shouldn't acknowledge it. Vice news always tries to get both perspectives i think, and tries to remain unbiased.

Im holding a mirror up to the foro in a very sarcastic and probably cynical way. A guy posts a thread that's called F%$# some group but people can't handle it when its aimed right back at them.

I very rarely visit the foro anymore because it's become a hodgepodge of douchebaggery:

The most infuential member was booted-off for spurious legal reasons (do not tell us agin that that other dude could have sued - hogwash).
There's very little usable flamenco educational information here anymore.
The users argue and backbite constantly, the foro is flooded with political threads posted by disgruntled marxist neophyte philosophers.
The snobbery is stunning (the horrible attitudes of know-it-alls who want to prove they know more about flamenco than everybody else).
The endless threads about a silly guy selling bad guitars.
And the most egregious error was the absolutely disgusting, horrifying, disrespectful attitudes displayed to women who attempted to become part of the group!

So, either clamp down on it or let people post whatever they want for pete's sake. But no one should be offended by my posts if you allow threads entitled "F&^% the Rich" and allow the debasing, misogynostic, pompous treatment of female enthusiasts to go unchecked.

So, F&^% you!
