(FULL DISCOGRAPHY LISTED ON PAGE 8)
http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=253824&mpage=8&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1&key=

We already listed "Niño de Barbate con la Colaboración Especial de Paco de Lucía" from1971. There were 2 LPs released at the time. I found volume 1 fairly quickly (TIP 24 56 016) but volume 2 took ages to find. There are 12 tracks on this LP. I think all of the Niño Barbate tracks have been released digitally now. Finally here is the original cover. (TIP 24 56 017)

RE: Paco De Lucía - Discography (in reply to Pimientito

This next disc is interesting. I bought it by accident. The title is "Lo mejor de Paco de Lucia" so it was a bit surprising to find that Paco isnt actually playing on this disc at all but another Paco altogether (Paco Cerezo). Its the only Paco de Lucia record I have without Paco on it!!

However all 10 compositions are by Paco (except Impetu) so I have filed it in the miscellaneous section as he was the composer.

I picked up this casette on a sunday market. Its from the "Maestros del Flamenco" series so there must be an LP of this recording as well. Track 1 is "Desde Ronda la Torera" by Manuel Soto "Sordero". Paco and Ramon are playing on this track which comes from the 1966 Polydor EP.

there seem to be a few of these albums, some just Paco stuff, some with an odd piece from Manolo, or Niño Ricardo as well. I think I have at least one on CD. I don't know if they are all recorded by the same guitarist or different ones, some don't even credit the guitarist, and where I did get a name I couldn't find any other info about them! Paco Cerezo sounds familiar, so I must have seen a copy of this.

For some reason the Disco de Oro by Camaron was left out of the discography. This compilation was made in 1988 and is a pretty good disc for anyone starting to get into cante Flamenco without having to go through the whole Camaron back catalogue. It contains 12 tracks from 1970-1975. Here is the CD but I know there is a vinyl edition too.

Now something new!!!!
Here is another new song and yet another unlisted collaboration.
I found this very much by accident and at first I thought it was a false reference.
I ended tracking down this single and it turned out to be true. Paco is playing here on a very commercial rumba by "Los Marismeños" called "Caramba, Carambita" It was produced in 1973 and appears as a single and also on the album "Sonido Andaluz". It is a song that was quite a hit and I believe made more famous after it was re-recorded by Los Chichos.

Just to tidy up the "El Sevillano" section, here is a digital release of the classic 60's recordings with Paco de Lucia. This 20 track CD was released in 1999 by Universal as part of a Historical recording series. The first 8 tracks are the complete remastered tracks from both 1964 EPs with Paco de Lucia (PHILIPS 436 270 PE and PHILIPS 436 271 PE).
The next 12 tracks consist of all 4 tracks from the 1967 EP (PHILIPS 436 895 PE) plus a selection of tracks from the other EPs produced in 1967.

I promised myself that this Discography would be finished by the end of the year. Here are the last dozen or so items that I could find. First up are 2 more CDs from the remastered back catalogue. Camarón de la Isla - Por Bulerias I contains 11 Bulerias tracks ranging from the first album with Paco in 1969 up to 1987 with Tomatito in Paris. Paco de Lucia con Camarón Vol.2 contains 12 tracks dating from 1969 to 1983

We listed several versions of 12 exitos para 2 Guitarras Flamencas but it took me ages to find a copy of the original 1965 LP. I got really lucky by finding this near mint condition edition of the original album. The CD was reissued in 1996 by Universal with a nearly identical cover and 4 page booklet.

My final addition to the Japanese section is a version of Dos Guitarras Flamencas en Latino America. This is a very splendid Gatefold LP with a high quality Deluxe cover. The same Girl is used on the Japanese Mañana de Carnival EP cover photo, also from 1967.

RE: Paco De Lucía - Discography (in reply to Pimientito

Here are 2 more compilation CDs. The first is a 22 track double CD set called Grandes Guitarras de Flamenco. Its actually a pretty interesting compilation with Guitar and cante tracks from some of the greatest Flamenco artists of the 20th Century from Sabicas, Enrique del Melchor, Tomatito, Terremoto de Jerez, Lebrijano, Fosforito, Juan Serrano, Manolo Sanlucar etc...
There are 3 Paco tracks on CD 1, one with Fosforito and another with Pepe de Lucia.

Track 7 fooled me though. Its called "Dice un Antiguo refrán - Buleria por Solea" by Paco de Lucia and Juan Peña. At first I thought this was a new colaboration until I remembered Juan Peña was "El Lebrijano"

The second CD is a 14 track compilation of popular material from the 70s and 80s. "Paco de Lucia - The collection" was produced in England in 1996 by Connoisseur Collection. There is nothing notable about this CD except a new cover photo of Paco and some amusing sleeve notes by Mike Howell.

This next edition is very unusual. Its an LP of Fuente y Caudal but presented as part of a promotion to celebrate 100 years of Lotusse shoes. The original LP was produced in 1973 but this edition was released in 1977. If you live outside of Spain you might not know who Lotusse are but they are one one of the best known brands of high quality shoes in Spain. This Gatefold LP has a history of the Lotusse shoe brand and a copy of the LP. It was chosen because they thought the music reflected the virtues of their own company "ofrecer constantamente, temporada tras temporada, los clásicos más modernos."
(to offer constantly, season after season, the most modern classics.)

RE: Paco De Lucía - Discography (in reply to Pimientito

I thought I had all the studio recordings on LP as well as CD but I realised recently that I did not have a vinyl version of Zyryab. Zyryab was one of the last studio albums to be released as an LP in 1990 before Concierto de Aranjuez and Live in America. I keep thinking it is a modern recording but it is nearly 27 years old now. It is still a remarkable recording by todays standards at a time when Paco was at his compositional peak. I think the LP cover with its simple design is greatly superior to the CD cover.

At the top page 13 we listed a compilation LP,
Paco de Lucia "Meister Der Spanischen Gitarre" (Double LP) GERMANY 1983 PHILIPS 6695 001
This Compilation was also released in Venezuela in 1985 under the title "Lo mejor de Paco de Lucia - El Maestro de la Guitarra Flamenca. It has the same front cover photo and identical photos and layout inside the gatefold. The text in the Venezuelan version is in Spanish instead of German but the recording is the same.

I found this unlisted compilation cassette at a second hand market. I am sure that there are dozens of cassette compilations out there that I have not had the time, interest or patience to list. This can be someone elses future project. I have the majority of the solo and studio albums on cassette now.

RE: Paco De Lucía - Discography (in reply to Pimientito

So now I am nearly finished and here is one last surprise find. Entre Dos Aguas is arguably Pacos most well known and iconic composition. This discography has been filled with surprising finds all the way through the last couple of years. I think it is fitting that at the very end we find yet another version of "Entre dos aguas". This is a UK released 7" single of Entre dos Aguas (incorrectly translated as between two rivers). However it is not the Spanish version. Side B is the version from the UK recording "Paco" which has a different solo and longer/faster picado sections. I had no idea that this version was released as a single.
Even more of a surprise is yet another version on Side A, an edited DJ version based on the LP track. This version only exists on this rare UK single. I cant find any CD re release or in fact any other reference to this track anywhere.
The disc is labelled
IDJ 10-A Edited DJ version
IDJ 10-B Taken from the album "Paco" ILPS 9354

Between Two Rivers -Entre Dos Aguas (7" Single) UK 1976 ISLAND RECORDS IDJ 10

In conclusion my final find is another compilation LP with a unseen cover photo. This LP has 17 tracks and is simply titled Paco de Lucia. It was produced in Spain in 1985. All tracks are from the late 60s and early 70s. Its a great final cover to add to this collection.

RE: Paco De Lucía - Discography (in reply to Pimientito

Ok guys, that really is it. After 2 years and 9 months of research I can finally put this baby to bed. I am 99% sure that there are no more tracks to find. It has been an amazing piece of research for me and I did not expect to find so much unlisted material....or indeed end up with the most fantastic record collection of Paco de Lucia on the planet.

I was especially pleased to discover and list all the colaborations with singers in the 60s such as Pepe Soto, Antonio el Camborio, Jarrito, Juan de la Loma etc.

There are a few things unlisted. I could only find 10 out of the 20 volumes of the Belter anthology series. I am pretty sure all 20 have Paco tracks on them.
I could not find for love or money a 1967 vinyl edition of Canciones Andaluzas or the original 1973 Maria Vargas LP. If anyone reading this has these recordings and doesnt use a record deck any more, I would love to hear from you.
I am sure there are a few more Belter compilation LPs out there with Paco tracks but I doubt there will be any new tracks on these albums.

I have not listed all the cassettes. There are many to list and probably no new material to be found.

All of the Studio albums have been released in Japan on CD. I have not collected or listed all the Japanese CD versions available. Its just too expensive and I am already out of space at home for more recordings.

I feel very pleased to have completed the task of collating these recordings and making the information available here on Foroflamenco. Thanks to everyone for their input especially Ricardo and Paul for their knowledge and help in filling in the gaps. I wish everyone a wonderful new year for 2017.

Bravo, Pimientito, Bravo! Yours has been a labor of love compiling the complete discography of Paco de Lucia, and it has been our great, good fortune to have been able to follow your efforts. You have earned a double copita of jerez this evening, before setting off on your next quest. Will there be a "next quest," and if so, what might it be?

Ha ha...well no new quests in mind right now. Paul did a great job with the Sabicas discography. There are definately some big projects out there for anyone interested. Lots of other great artists dont have their discographies listed and this info really needs to be put together some time. For a start someone could research the work of Ramon de Algeciras. This discography would be a good starting place but it would need a good year of work to track down all the colaborations that he did. He appears on recordings everywhere. The same is true of Manolo Sanlucar. Lets hope there are some more people out there as obsessive as me

Thanks. Nothing like as thorough as yours, of course. But this sort of things is like painting the Forth bridge, because record companies keep re-releasing mindless permutations and combinations of tracks as new anthologies.

Trying to identify them on Amazon is as much as (or sometimes slightly more than) I have patience for.

How would you translate it.then? Undecided?

RE: Paco De Lucía - Discography (in reply to Paul Magnussen

Im pretty sure if Paco wanted it to be called "Between two Rivers" it would have been "Entre dos Rios". I agree with Ricardos theory that it describes geographically the town of Algeciras. When I was there at Pacos funeral you couldnt help but notice that looking West faces the Atlantic ocean but looking East faces the Meditteranean sea. It is a town situated between two waters...it was home!

Ramzi - you are welcome to come here and use my MP3 record deck for the next 2 months!!! Then you can transcribe all the falsettas and post them in the complete Paco Falset-ography if you like
Now there is a quest!!!!!!!

Joking aside, if there are any unavailable historical recordings that anyone wants to research, I would be happy to help with Mp3s. Please dont ask me to post material that you can easily buy on Amazon, ebay etc.

RE: Paco De Lucía - Discography (in reply to Pimientito

Thank you for your amazing work!

Once you remove the duplicates, how many unique PDL recordings did you find in total? I don't mean whole albums, but recordings as in single "songs". Further, once you remove the different recordings of the same composition - how many unique compositions (his and by others that he recorded) did you find?

Thats going to take a little while to calculate but its several hundred individual tracks. I am guessing Paco composed as much material as some of the great composers like De Falla or Tarrega
