We listed the CD single of "Have you ever really loved a woman?" by Bryan Adams with Paco. Here is the Don Juan de Marco soundtrack with the Spanish cover. The CD contains 10 tracks from the original score.
Guitarists credited on the album are Julian Bream, Paul Kamen, Paco de Lucia, Juan Martin, John Themis, Chucho Merchan, Orlando Ricon, Sol de Mexico, Ana Maria Velez.

Was searching the other day and Internet turned up nothing. IN the original Cassete sleeve is a cool picture of Paco and Bryan playing, Paco in PJ's. If you have that pic can you upload it?

I thought I had uploaded that earlier on page 5 but I see now its just a mini version. Especially for you here is a large version.
I think this is an excellent comparison of Pacos perfect guitar and hand position compared to that of a "normal" guitarist.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

After listing a bunch of compilations and reissues, finally something new.
I have found another 10 tracks!!! However I must warn you that this is a painfully over-produced recording of 80s flamenco-pop.

This offering comes from Manuela who released an LP called "Desde la claridad" in 1984. It was produced by Pepe de Lucia who also wrote the majority of the songs. Paco is credited as "Asesor musical" and guitarist along with Tomatito.
Saxophone parts are by Pedro Iturralde. The record company describe this as an " one of the most ambicious projects in Spanish Music of recent times" which on listening to the recording I would translate as "overly complicated and doesnt really work". Its not surprising that this recording was over looked. Despite the expense of the production there is no Soul or Duende in the Lavish orchestral/drum kit arrangement and we are left with an "elevator" flamenco production that is neither good flamenco or good pop music.

Track 1 is a version of Entre dos Aguas with Manuela singing letras written by Pepe and accompanied by orchestra.
Track 2. fairly disappointing...bordering on dreadful.
Paco is clearly playing some of his classic Rondeña falsetas on track 3. This is the only guitar track on side 1.
Track 4 has a version of the Tangos, "Los Palitos" with Pacos falsetas played on piano
Track 6 starts with Cancion de Amor played on Saxophone by Pedro Iturralde and progresses into a Disney version of Gypsy Cante complete with cartoon bluebirds.
Track 7 is just a plain travesty to any musical genre I can think of.
Track 8 "Asi es la vida"- Finally Paco and Tomatito open the track with a blazing display of dual guitar work. This Tangos is easily the best track on the Album and the only track worth listening to several times.
Tracks 9 and 10 are not worth the wear of my fingertips on the keyboard to write about.

This album serves as a lesson that flamenco is not and never will be an orchestral form. It also shows us that throwing thousands of dollars on amazing musicians, producers and orchestras will not necessarily produce a good album

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

The original Spanish Edition of "Interpreta a Manuel de Falla" is pretty easy to obtain. It really has a very nice Gatefold sleeve with artistic representations of Pacos right and left hands and the back and front cover.
Inside the gatefold is a ghostly rendition of Paco and de Falla together with the track lists. Sleeve art work by Maximo Moreno 1978.

Now the Japanese version is harder to find. This has been unlisted so far.
The disc is the same but the cover is a single sleeve with the inside photo outside!
Track listings on the back are in Japanese.

RE: Pacos Discography (in reply to Pimientito

I stumbled across another Opera CD with Paco on it. This CD is called "All-star Tenors salute the world" Its mainly Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingo singing songs from different countries around the world (although mainly Europe). I thought it was going to be a live album but its just a compilation. Some tracks are live and some are studio. Track 6 is Seville by Placido Domingo and Paco de Lucia. However it is not a new track. This track comes from the album "Soñadores de España" listed on Page 5 of this thread. The track was also released as a maxi single (page 10).

PS. I have never played Pavarotti on my car stereo before and I can recommend it highly. His voice was incredible....probably the greatest since Carusso.

Another compilation CD again from 1994. This CD is part of a huge set of Flamenco recordings produced by Orbis/ Fabbri - maybe 50 or 60 CDs.
This 16 track recording is the same as "Erase una vez", a double LP which we listed on page 13. The only difference is that the last track on the LP (El vito) is not on the CD . The track listing for the remainder is identical.

EDIT- I have just seen that Ricardo posted this on page 8 but without the sleeve cover.

This next recording is extremely rare. Its a Japanese compilation with Ramon de Algeciras under the Fontana label. The title would make you think its a re-release of the 1965 "12 exitos" but most of the tracks are from the 1969 recording with orchestra except for "Moliendo Cafe" with Ricardo Modrego. Its a single sleeve and the disc is undated but must be from around 1970. The hand drawn cover illustration is really unusual. I was very happy with this find.

'A Papa Habichuela', which is track six on CD2 of Juan Habichuela's Habas Contadas gives PdL a guitar credit. There's a sort of sleepy version of some bits from 'Como El Agua'.

Different mixes? I will have to check it out. Does it have the farruca/zapateado/guajira/canastera with the strings taken off?!

Thanks Brendan. I checked this CD out. Its a compilation of Juan Habichuela tracks from other CDs. The track you mentioned "A Papa Habichuela" comes from the CD "De la Zambra al Duende" but I think its been credited incorrectly. The track 7 "Gabarre" is the collaboration with Paco that we listed (track 2 from the original CD) However I didnt know about this CD so we can add it to the list.

RE: Paco De Lucía - Discography (in reply to Pimientito

This next recording should really be of interest Ricardo. Im not really sure how to categorise it. I said at the beginning of this discography that we should not list Bootleg recordings. This recording is definately not an official release but it is commercially available. Its a live concert of the guitar trio with material I have never heard before.

This Double CD is simply called John McLaughlin - Al Di Meola - Paco de Lucia. It was made in Italy on a label called "All of us" and distributed by Minotauro Records. The recording itself sounds as if it was taken directly from the mixing board. Pacos guitar is more audible than the others. The tone is awful and the whole recording could have done with a serious sound engineer balencing the EQ, levels and adding some reverb. There is some audience noise on the recording too.

Saying all that, they captured a night where the trio were on fire. Paco in particular pulled some impossible tricks out of the bag and was outplaying Al di Meola. Its impossible not be astounded by the playing on this recording. There is no indication of where the concert was or the date. I am assuming it was in Italy since John says "Grazie" to the audience but there are no sleeve notes.
The concert is over 90 minutes and most of the tracks are over 10 minutes long. The last track cuts off mysteriously after about 12 minutes in the middle of a solo. Perhaps someone knows more about this recording.

David
Medley; Grace and fire, mediterranean sundance, Entre dos aguas
Sendrio

CD2 (AS 18/2)

On Page 11 of this thread I identified a disc with Juanito Valderrama and Paco de Lucia. This recording was misleading because it contains 2 solo Paco tracks and the rest are cante tracks with Ramon de Algeciras - No actual tracks of Juanito and Paco together. Anyway this disc was re issued in 1988 by Dial Discos with a nicer cover.

This 12 track compilation is a CD from the "Nuevo Flamenco" series. The tracks are the usual suspects from the 70s and 80s. La Barrosa, Monasterio de Sal, Almoraima, Fuente y caudal etc.

Cool man. I would love to have this. I will say first, this is from their 1983 tour for Passion Grace and Fire, where in USA at least, they performed with Steve Morse of Dixie dregs who opened up solo for them, then joined them at the end for two encores. This site captured bootlegs of 3 or 4 of these concerts:

http://www.jazzfusion.tv/bootlegaudio.html

I think the track list is closest to the 2nd of these concerts if you scroll down. They normally opened with Aspan, but in one case only they opened with Spain. I wonder if David is not actually "Frevo"? The last tune on first disc is SCENARIO by Dimeola. On the USA bootleg they play Aspan after Orient Blue...so probably this Italian bootleg cut off cuz they ran out of tape. The other tunes were Splendido Sundance and/or Chanela, that they did with Steve. Not sure if he joined them in Europe. There is a bad bootleg video on YouTube from Australian tour:
http://youtu.be/FAIeFmcbmLg

The background music score is of Frevo...and has some wrong notes

Man...thank you for the information on this disc and for posting the link to the jazz fusion site. Thats a crazy resource of concert material. I downloaded 7 new "guitar trio" concerts. Some of the recordings are really not that bad.

Ok, I did a bit more digging around the discography of Pepe de Lucia and came up with some more material. The first disc is "Caminando" which we already have on our list. The 1983 vinyl record is now pretty hard to find in any condition and has a truly cheesy photo of Pepe on the back cover. Paco is credited as musical director as well as playing on the recording. I updated the index number.

Most of the tracks from this recording are on the CD "Los hijos de Lucia" except track 5 "En Tierra Dura" which appears on the original recording.

All 8 tracks from Caminando can be found on the "Paco de Lucia con Pepe de lucia" CD of remastered tracks released in 2005 on Universal/Global rhythm.
I think I mentioned this CD but forgot to list it. It contains 12 tracks, all 8 tracks from "Caminando" and the other 4 are from 1972.

Non of the Compilation CDs seem to have tracks from other albums though. By luck I found another track. Pepe de Lucia released an LP "Que tristeza amarte tanto" (Such sadness to love you so much) in 1987. This LP has a track "Asesinato" featuring Paco. I cant find it on youtube anywhere and I cant track it down on CD. This is another one of those stray tracks I think.

I could not find the original 1963 recording of Los Chiquitos de Algeciras but i did find a reissue by hispavox from 1983. It contains the same 12 tracks as the original recording. The sleeve notes are also the same as on the original 1963 recording. However these 12 tracks are not the same as those released on the original EPs from 1961. Even the reissue LP was hard to find.

RE: Paco De Lucía - Discography (in reply to Pimientito

Now some exciting news. It would appear that the record companies are finally going through the back catalogue of Paco recordings, remastering and releasing some of the missing material that I have listed.

Here is a new double CD from WARNER that will be of interest to anyone following this thread. Finally you can buy the complete anthology of los Chiquitos de Algeciras on CD.This edition was released earlier this month and got it in FNAC for 10 Euros. Its also available on Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Antologia-Inedita-Los-Chiquitos-Algeciras/dp/B01ELHK69M/?ie=UTF8&qid=1474539480&sr=8-1&keywords=chiquitos+de+algeciras

This Compilation is an essential part of your Paco collection. CD 1 contains all 12 tracks from the original 3 1961 EPs. Not only that there are 2 more tracks that I dont think were released at the time. I need to check but I think one of them is the one used in the movie "Busqueda" that I could not track down at the time. Thats all 14 1961 tracks digitally remastered.
Track 15 is from the very rare Jose Greco Ep from 1963. This EP is almost impossible to find so to be able to get the track on CD is a real treat.
It would be worth getting this set just for CD 1 but Cd 2 has all 12 twelve tracks from the Hispavox 1963 LP
PLUS....another track that I didnt know about called Chalaura by Pepe de Lucia.

The CD set comes with a comprehensive 10 page booklet of track history and sleeve notes. Considering the original 1961 EPs are nearly impossible to obtain and cost around 100 dollars each....plus the Hispavox album also cant be found easily, plus you get 2 unreleased tracks and 2 more rare tracks, this set is a total bargain. Easily the best thing to have on your Christmas list this year !!

Just to tie up this section I found the original recording of Chalaura. This was released as a maxi single. (45 rpm 12" disc) Its basically an earlier version of Buana Buana King kong. There are 2 versions on the disc. Side A has version 1 and side B has version 2. Both versions are on the chiquitos double CD set. The disc itself is labelled with 3 versions but this must be an error.

This last disc I think ties up all the stray tracks with Pepe de Lucia.
The Paco discography has also done a pretty good job of nailing down Pepes recordings too.

This next CD is an American (US) edition called Alcazar de Seville. Its on the BASIC label under licence of Philips.
The first 6 tracks are from the Concierto de Aranjuez Album. Tracks 1-3 are the Concierto de Aranjuez. Tracks 4-6 are from the Suite Iberia with Juan Manuel Cañizares. Tracks 7-11 are the first 5 tracks from the "Live in America" album.
Its quite interesting to hear that Pacos compositions stand up to the quality of great composers such as Rodrigo and Albéniz and dont sound out of place appearing on the same album.

I think I am finally on the home strait with this thread. I have some remaining items and still a few last minute surprises. This discography should be completed by the end of this year. First off the bat is the Album "Oltre" by Claudio Baglione which we have already listed. I found the original double LP from 1990. Paco features on the track "Domani Mai"

On page 17 of this thread Ed posted a cover of a different edition of "Dos Guitarras Flamencas". I finally found a copy of this disc in almost unplayed condition. It was manufactured in Holland on the Fontana label but is undated. Sleeve notes are in English. The sleeve notes credit Paco with playing on a documentary "Antonio in the caves of Nerja". We have this film listed too but have had no luck in finding a clip of it so far.

This next edition is pretty rare. Its a Japanese re-issue of Pepe de Lucia y Paco de lucia originally released in 1972. This disc is undated but it comes from a similar series of discs that Maria Vargas is on from 1973. There is a sleeve cover inside the disc with all the lyrics translated into Japanese and the disc has a rare white label.
