Oh my god those both make me want to die. First one is SOOOOO BORING and the second one makes me feel bad for the worlds children. Yes, if flamenco wants to capture the attention of the worlds 50 cent and Pitbull fans that is what it needs to do. Get dumb.
First guys got some sort of skill but it's boring as ****. Second guy I wanna punch in the face so bad!

My 2 cents at least………..

I respect you as you are a great player and you have lot of respect for tradition, but I respectfully disagree....also Hector Acosta is not anything like pit bull lets be real

Thank God Flamenco does not sound like any one of these.

If you want to listen to some non-flamenco music with this sort of feel, look up: El Bicho, Fondo Flamenco, El Barrio, Melendi and Chambao. Maybe that is what you are looking for. As for flamenco, I hope it never becomes mainstream. That would definitely kill it.

Why do you have the urge to kill flamenco all the time? You anounce its dead every 2 posts. Why cant you just leave flamenco in peace. You most obviously dont like it.

You have your rights to like and prefer commercial pop music. But stop calling it flamenco because it has absolutely NOTHING to do with flamenco.

If something is going to kill flamenco its going to be guys like you.

that Hector Acosta is a bachata tune. I dance bachata all the time, and while it has a certain energy it is definitely not Flamenco.

the future of flamenco, is more flamenco. Not anything redefined. Period.

Pick played cypress guitars are more like the future when everyone has to keep up with the demands of more and more speed when guitarists start to concentrate more and more on the technique than the music.

You´re talking about traditional flamenco being dead and those are the examples you come up with? Are you serious?
I really hope you´re just joking around, if not you definately need to review your definition of flamenco mate

Whats up with all these sensational gimmicky thread titles?
I expected to see something revolutionary when i clicked it,
like the invention of a new palo or something funny at least ....
then comes Kema playing good old Pharaon from 30 years
old Gypsy Kings album ... wtf :/

If you want clicks, let me know.
I will start a "Penis VS Vagina" thread.

Very well said, Anders. . .

(My own two cents, for what it's worth: )

Over several hundred years flamenco may have gone through its highs and lows.

Nevertheless, it has continued to evolve, and has become a widely-respected international art form.

But does this mean the traditional palos will die out?

Never; never.

Nunca!

I think mark is just joking... Flamenco surely won't die out, I would think about that chance only if there would be a mass extinction of andalucian gypsies.

Well; in Canada they've just done away with the cent altogether. So I'll have to kick in a nickel ( 5 cents, wow ! ).

Are we any closer to that Christmas beer yet?

I disagree. Flamenco has its roots in Andulacia and they do keep it alive as it is something passed down to them but there art form is not longer private or exclusive as it once was , and even if all the Gitanos were to die Flamenco has already made itself known to others outside of Spain.

Asides from that if Genocide hit the gypsies of Andualicia in this day and age, I wouldn't be surprised if people became more interested in Flamenco after mass extinction because surely it would become well known to the world living in the information age and all which could lead to much curiosity on behalf of us monkeys.

I disagree too.
Well, I agree if you consider it as a guitaristic format.
But I have some reserves if you take it to a cante level, I don't think it's possible to achieve something close to Zambo or Moneo or Talega voice if you're not born and raise in the 'right' circle or place. Surely there are exceptions out there (Poveda might be consider one of them), but Barcelona is part of Spain (for the moment ).
Let me know if there are some 'out of spain' relevant cantaor (that aren't came from gitanos anduluses immigration move).

Of course speaking of guitarista, is another thing. If you consider that flamenco is about wood and hands then I tend to agree with you. But that's not my definition of flamenco...

If you by relevant mean someone more or less known and considered, then I dont think you can find any.
But there are foreigners singing flamenco and doing it pretty well, They study a lot, and know a lot of palos and words about the tecnique, but somehow they remind me of most foreign guitarists (I was like that myself when I played). We just dont get the real feel and touch. There are of course guitarist exeptions comming very close or being there. But its very few.
No names mentioned.

I agree, it's something in the spanish or gypsy blood that makes a flamenco guitarist or singer "puro".
I think it's quite simple, in the same manner almost every country has their national music and when foreigners try to play it they very rarely can do it in authentic manner. There are always some exceptions as in everything

Foreigners can learn, it just takes a lot of time and it helps a lot to live a couple of decades in a place where you can play along with the "indigenous" people.
It takes a hell of a long time to learn culture. And its not something tecnical.
