No? They look like 'em..... They're just sweet like a bell pepper?

RE: Juan Martin vs PdL (in reply to Escribano

I come to this forum because I want to learn about flamenco and hear about the flamenco experiences of others.

But instead I have to read all this cooking **** that I couldn't care less about. What's up with you guys anyways? Is it so difficult to put your inane chatter into another thread with an appropriate title so I (and others) can give it all the attention it deserves?

And the site administrators are participating too. This place is becoming a joke.

I see you have over 2600 posts here. Maybe you should heed your own advice.

Here are some more good ones!

Six Ways to Make People Like You
1.Become genuinely interested in other people.
2.Smile.
3.Remember that a person's name is, to that person, the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
4.Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
5.Talk in terms of the other person's interest.
6.Make the other person feel important – and do it sincerely.

How juvenile.

I do have a sense of humour, but apparently it's a bit more sophisticated than yours. On the other hand, maybe one day you'll post something funny.

I have to agree with you. Hi jacking threads is arrogant and insulting to those who wish to use discuss and learn,

Its a FORUM, for ===='s sake, but on this one, you're only allowed to discuss what the superior ones will let you discuss.

Most honestly, I think this thread should be closed now and so should all threads that are being seriously hijacked...
Its better to start new threads because these ALWAYS end up being to ugly.

The forum is not passing a good moment (has it ever been worse) and all this doesnt make it a better place. Yes, lots of ha - ha, but very little flamenco. And LOTS of bad energy

I know that I´m not better than anyone else when it comes to hijacking etc and maybe some of us (I include myself) have been here to long and maybe we should take a long break and let the foroflamenco live its own energy.

OK, no more hijacking. We stay on-topic or start another thread.

I think there's only one relevant point regarding Juan Martin - has he had a nett negative impact on flamenco?

If you can't honestly answer that question with "yes" then you shouldn't have a problem with him imo.

Well, I'm sunk. I slept on it, but just can't come back from a sophisticated diss like that Sorry for the bad vibes, amigos - I'm putting this guy back on my block list where he belongs.

Back to the topic, I must say that I've never taken much notice of Juan Martin. Nice to hear the positive comments about him being a great ambassador for flamenco, but his playing doesn't inspire me personally. Besides, the influence and accomplishments of Paco are beyond comparison IMO.

I think that'd make an adorable ending to the thread.

you think this thread is gonna end? it's been running on and off since 2005!!!

it's like a strange initiation ritual everyone seems to have to go through, "is x really flamenco?" [add in the fakemenco/fraudmenco/crapmenco of your choice]; "why does everyone hate y?" [ditto]; "is x better than y?" - old vs new; paco vs jm; cante vs solo guitar; how do you do your nails? how do you do picado? what are the best strings? which is the best conde shop?

it's all really boring for anyone who has skipped these questions, or who has gone beyond them and now has to watch wincing while other people go through them....

i actually have no problem with new people asking the same things time and time again, it's inevitable. I don't always feel like answering or joining in, but I don't roll my eyes and say "not this again" because it's just gonna keep coming.... if anything the "this is so boring" attitude is worse than the new people asking the same questions or coming up with the same amazing new insights....

I am simply impressed some new comers lately have actually been using the search function and finding old topics rather than start new threads on old topics without investigating first.

I'm new to the forum, and I find it more fun to have ask questions than read other peoples old conversations. Asking questions and having responses makes it feel like a community instead of an old book full of peoples opinions. For some reason I thought it was frowned upon to revive 1 year+ old posts?

Understandable....it's just some of the older members have restated the same info so many times, and to go back through the archives ourselves to post links to old topics that were worded pretty much exact like we would have wanted to today, is too time consuming.

Ricardo, I have more or less the same "problem" (In the luthiers section) as you and I´ve been here since 2003.
Maybe sometimes we just dont have to answer.

RE: Juan Martin vs PdL (in reply to Escribano

I think the Foro is doing fine. I like the food posts and if a thread gets hijacked every now and then so what. Some threads deserve to be hijacked, they just beg fir it because they are antagonistic.

Where do you draw the line between staying on topic and expanding the context of the topic? I think as long as you maintain a relationship to the theme of the original post you can veer in and out of the topic a keep it healthy. Otherwise things can be sterile. The world is messy, just deal with it.

The problem is that some people get myopic, they want to keep it "pure". Things are not pure, and really when an important topic comes up people really don't mess with it too much. Most of the time now I just let things ride in the luthiers foro section. What your guitar has a crack? Hey go see the luthier in your town and pay him some money for an opinion. Or search the archives and read all the past answers and then ask your question.

The foro has to be for everyone, even the slackers like me who just hang out to be social while waiting t for glue to dry. Uptight people are just as annoying as off topic talkers. Find some balance. Some of the uptight folks never talk about themselves or share stuff that others might like. Some of the Socialites are too confessional at times...

Do what ever you want, but don't bug me about your thumbnail insecurities.

Yeah it like saying 'French Polishing Thread!' in a luthiers foro....the sharks come out of the deep sea and talk talk talk.... it's really kind of boring to explain something that is learned by practice over and over and over....I've seen this on many foros where the older class graduates and the younger class takes over to explain things. Then they eventually get bored and "graduate" to lurking. Then yet another class comes in and discusses French Polish like they invented it five minutes ago. While the class that graduated five years ago is bored shiet-less and starts causing trouble.

Then when the young classes really need help with some thing difficult the older classes wake up and give the information, then go right back to socializing and causing trouble.

Idle hands are the Devils workshop!
