Just like to express: Electronic par...

Just received a message about Summer NAMM. Something I do not really deserve as I am having no studio since years ( only hoping to sometime install my gear and return to the thrill of audio work ).

Anyway, I noted in past years already that convertors have leaped forwards immensely ( even those in your common laptop card!) and already my last purchase with audio gear, a Korg DSD recorder six xears ago came with remarkable performance considering the very decent price.

Now with the mail today I came to notice devices like the Zoom H6 recorder.

How would I had wished something comparably in my teen years when longing for a 4 or even just 2 track cassette recorder, but couldn´t afford it!

But thinking back to already only a few years ago ... The digital stuff you would get ... and what you had to shell out for passable conversion quality!
From what I noticed on the way, the latest generation of inexpensice convertors must be a blast for the money.

In fact, as it made me curious, I just went to quickly read up on how my dust gathering blue Lavry convertors compare to contemporary product level ( expecting them to have become nearly obsolete ).
Seems they still have a lead even in the professional shelf. - But it won´t lessen on the fact of how quality has changed in the budget range. What fine gear you can get for small dough now!

That H6 tracker from Zoom comes in for 400 bucks. And just look what it can do as a portable device. That versatility at pocket size!
Only drawback, no PSU, but hey ...

Or for your external mics or preamps, eight tracks with something like the TASCAM DR-680 for some 700 $s ...

Electronically it´s a Cockaigne now! Fantastic!
Just saying.
