Hello from California!

Greetings, all. I'm Joel, just another over-tall, over-fed white guy who loves flamenco, born and bred in California.

The sounds of flamenco have been echoing inside my skull probably since before I can remember. PDL's Luzia really got me bitten by the flamenco bug, and ever since I've relished every bit of audio, video and text about flamenco that I could find. As a guitar player since age 12, my main interest is in the toque; but since my skill is but mediocre and I lack an actual guitarra flamenca (thankfully, I do have a Spanish-built classical guitar which I fitted with golpeadores and on which I use flamenco strings), my efforts are more towards composing than playing. I also love the cante (my favorite cantaor is Fosforito) and the concentrated pathos of flamenco's lyrics; I studied Spanish mainly so as to be able to write letras of my own.

Muchas gracias in advance to all who have contributed and who continue to contribute to this forum, from which I'm sure I'll be learning so much.

Hi Joel, welcome to the Foro!

I too don't have a proper Flamenco guitar. It's just a cheap Classical guitar fitted with a golpeador, just like yours. It's not the best thing in the World but it's more than enough to learn.

Keep that passion you already have for Flamenco and enjoy the good stuff the Foro has to offer.

Thanks kindly for the welcome, Fred. =)

Hi LuckyStar. I was born and spent my first eight years in the (in)famous Orange County. Since then I've lived in the northernmost Bay Area.
