Savarez T50J Tomatito Flamenco Strings

Any ideas how different these strings are ?

another great thing is all of the attention various versions of the exact same string can be repacked and sold to unsuspecting numbskulls thinking it might make them sound more authentic or can magically turn a crap guitar into one of those orange ones

I actually have a Manuel Fernandez Fernandez guitar. I also have a mint Ramirez guitar . both of them are older guitars and i posted because i was not sure about those strings. you know these are very nice collectible older guitars both worth about 8000 dollars and i do not want to put too much weight on the neck and body... not sure what kinda guitar you have and play!

I had a 1987 Ramirez (now own a 1989 Manuel Carceres)
the Ramirez had tried many strings
The soundboard has been stretched by some
It seems to like
La bella 820b's
Luthier 20's or 30'
In the past and would use these strings again

I currently have about 20 sets of D Mari 300 strings
I like the sound and feel of these for this guitar tension seems right....also sound great on my Caceres

Ron fernandez has spent many years of his life with Ramirez guitars
He can give you advice regarding strings and soundboard flexing

My partner was using em on the Rumba gig with me last week, the 1st string E popped and smacked him in the face right near his eye. These strings are NOT for payos.

it is a 1985. I think i will put it on the Fernandez guitar for now to see how it plays, on the other hand Ramirez guitars are very sensitive, light and thin, i think. I think a hard tension would be too much on the ramirez ... i would try it on the fernandez to hear how it plays.

Oh man, so not learning his lesson my partner gave em a second chance....saturday night the D string popped in first set we played on and the last song he popped the first string too.

The audience was laughing at him with the strings flopping about. (We are 3 guitars so it wasn't like a show stopper). He was embarrassed though it was kind of ridiculous. F those strings.

yep, seams like these strings are not consistent in quality.
happened to me with a treble string (gladly at home) shortly after puting them up.
tomate should send some free copies of his new CD as compensation.
so what strings do you guys usually use for your gigs? la bella?

I had a set of these on my classical and it sounded great, put it on my Blanca when I just got it just to hear and sounded even better. Put it back on the classical then my wife played the classical and the A string snapped. I thought its just one of those things or because it was like a month old @ the time that it snapped

Now a friend of mine thats coming from Spain in this week bought me a set there and I was kinda excited... But now not so much lol

Wish we had the options here that you guys have abt chosing strings, just the other day I managed to convince a well known music shop owner to bring in Dáddario flamenco's. So if 1 were to compare which is better... the Tomatiti's or the Dáddario flamenco's? in terms of both sound and quality? just your opinions based on experience

I loved the feel and sound of these strings, but after a week, they still would not hold tune properly. All six strings seemed to be stretching indefinitely, and dropping a whole step after a week!

I could not explain it, but at over 15$ a pack I decided to give up on them.

D'addarios quality is excelent and they live forever. I would say most consistent quality in string making. Based on what we can read here and my own little experience, Quality: D'addario 1 - Tomatito 0.

Sound and feel is a different story. I liked the sound of these Tomatito strings a lot. You have to try out and chose your favourite. Also it depends on the guitar. You might even want to mix brands and string models to find the best for you.

Ill be putting on the new set of Tomatito's on my Maingard Blanca.. Hopefully this week and will also be getting the D'addario flamenco's sometime next week.I guess that's the only way ill know but thus far the old Tomatito's just done it for me on my classical and Blanca. I've got D'addario pro arte's on my blanca now and it sounds good but not doing justice to the guitar,doesn't give me that punch I got from the old Tomatito's

Iam using Harley Benton (thomann) strings and there's nothing wrong with them up to now. No super powers either.

I think they cost 2,5€.

I've been playing flamenco for the last five years. Just today I went from a La Bella 2001 classical set to Savarez' Tomatito T50R on my Juan Hernández Flamenca Estudio (2007) blanca. My wife and kids immediately noticed and commented on the difference: clearer, punchier and brighter all over, as if my guitar had been turned on into flamenco mode. As to playability, the T50R set is much easier on the fingers, requiring noticeably less fretboard pressure and playing effort. Next on the list are Mari flamenco strings, but so far I'm very pleased with the T50R set.

Pat Enright, of the Nashville Bluegrass Band, actually lost an eye to a breaking string. Of course, that would have been a steel one; but even so, were I using the Tomatitos, I would be extra careful to keep my eyes out of the way

Ricardo your words are so wise lol!!!!!

Ive had them on and once again so impressed with the sound it really woke up my Blanca.. day 6 whilst watching a new series just before id practice abit i just heard a mild "Whip like sound" lol ... The D string snapping and I wasnt even playing the damn thing!!!!!!!!

Still in all honesty the sound is very good but thats also the last time I get those strings.... actually abit dissappointed but anyway..........

My advice.. DO NOT BUY Tomatito-Savarez flamenco guitar strings!!!!!!!!

Dont even take it if you get it for free!!!

Ill wait now until the Dáddario flamenco's come and try that

Hmm. Mine haven't snapped yet, but what I've read so far describes my experience with Savarez high-tension sets: great sound, constant retuning and eventual failure. And that was over 20 years ago. What a shame. Has anyone complained directly to Savarez?

I've been using Savarez red cards on my '67 Ramirez 1a blanca since it was new. After I made a new bridge saddle for it in about 1996, sometimes the A-string would break at the saddle, after a couple of months. I finally got off my butt and smoothed off the saddle with some 500 grit sandpaper, and it hasn't broken since. I like the sound, and they last OK for me.

I've been using the Savarez red cards on my '82 Arcangel Fernandez blanca since I bought it in 2000. I like the sound, they play in tune, and they last long enought to suit me--but I should mention that the Arcangel is the loudest guitar I have ever played.

Also I should mention that I bought a bunch of Savarez red cards five or six years ago, then laid off playing until recently, so I have no experiience with recent Savarez production.

After two weeks of daily practice and a couple of two-hour shows, the strings performed just fine. Today's venue was an exterior garden right after a light shower, so the humidity was particularly high. I was expecting at least one string to give out but not one did, and two hours of hard playing didn't make them budge. I returned maybe once during the show. If I can get 6-8 weeks out of these I'll consider getting them again.

Next in line are a set of Mari Flamenco strings. I'm just hoping that I can get with these a similar sound to the Tomatito set.

I've used the T50R for over a month, during which I've played live in venues with varied conditions, and even replaced the guitar tuners while keeping the same string set. The T50R set hasn't budged, no strings have snapped, and the sound is still great. Tuning is no different now from other sets I've worked with. Maybe Savarez got a hold on the quality issues, or maybe I just got lucky with this batch. Thanks again for all the advice on this product.

I'd expect to give up some durability, for liveliness.
When I think of D'addario, and how people complain they are a bit dull, the phrase "built like a tank" comes to mind.
I'm waiting for Adamantium strings to come out; right after they come up with Adamantium.

yeah ....Unobtainium....means you cant get it so bad luck there ....
Maybe try making some with "difficultoobtainium " at least you have some chance at finishing at least one set ...
