The best advice is indeed to listen,view and play a lot and to find yourself a good teacher (not the kind that plays his own stuff and expects you to figure it out yourself, but one who can really teach/coach you in understanding both the music and the technique). I freewheeled myself for over 10 years before i took my first flamenco lessons and basically had to start all over again.
