Hola ,

Diferente, global, sorprendente, inspirado.

It's alright, I guess. Vicente is pretty good at selling us the same thing over and over again. The additional instrumentation sure will make the flamenco police raise an eyebrow though.

I adore Vicente Amigo but I really think I have to adjust to that sound. Roma sounds a bit like a Knopfler song. Reminds me of cold days. Kind of celtic-sound. No andalucía. But thats just me talking about his new single, as an hardcore Vicente fan.

Great news!

I love Vicentes music. His style always relaxes me when i hear it. More so than any other player.

The melodic twists and turns always surprise and please my ears. I'm always impressed by the way he can take something so complex and make it sound simple. IMO many other guitarists end up with something sounding overly complex. And I don't enjoy it so much.

Imo this is very flamenco. It sounds elegant and really tells a story. I find the expression in his arpeggios outstanding.

Never said it was bad or something. I only said that I have to adjust to that sound. It's something other, something I don't expect from this new recording.. I heard the first arpegios and I thought of a typical slow Vicente Bulería like we heard it on his other albums. But it is something different. A celticría maybe
I don't have to say that the dynamics, melody and arrangement of that piece are outstanding, very creative, very emotional. That should be obvious.

I think you're right.

But we're waiting to listen to his other recordings of this album. I like that Vicente mixed celtic melodies to this buleria.

He's playing in Glasgow (Scotland) on the 18th Jan.

It's part of the annual Celtic Connections finger-in-the-ear wig-out

I don't fancy his chances much if the Caledonian Flamenco Police catch up with him.

I like it but this song moves more towards the easy listening/world music scene. The music on his first album had a huge impact on guitarrists. This kind of stuff... probably wont. Reminds me a bit of a song by Rafael Cortes with all the drums, flute and especially the breaks.
The recording is superb though, so much dynamics and clarity. Maybe the best instrumental recording quality ive ever heard.

Well, it sounds exactly like every album since Ciudad de las Ideas...which I think is funny since the press release makes such a big deal of having the Dire Straits as a producer.

On a side note, apparently Vicente wanted to do an instructional video at some point but his contract (with Sony/Warner I am guessing) didn't allow him to do so.

Sounds better than Paseo de Gracia, but the chord progression is way too predictable. The instrumentation is interesting, but comes off as gimmicky...

That was the thinking.

I posted it on Vicente's FB page just to stick it to him. I have a feeling YouTube is going to tell me I need to take down the video soon. Probably upset Vicente. I wonder why.

Oh well, If they do that, just upload the second half of the vid where you play it slowly. Maybe you should upload it now so the date will still show that you were first, just incase they force you to remove the above version.

Nice work Ramzi!

This recording has absolutely nothing to do with flamenco...

There´s nothing flamenco in it. absolutely nothing nothing nothing.... If you have a very "open" mind, you could call it a 6/8 bulerias, but the melodic context and everything else has nothing to do with flamenco and it be streching everything a lot to call it flamenco.

I have nothing against it, its sweet and as Ricardo says a bit boring. But dont call it flamenco PLEASE. There must be some limits.

BTW, I will tell you when I´ve heard it in and elevator or a supermarket. I wont take long. Trust me.

RE: New album by Vicente Amigo (in reply to Elie

maybe we could be a bit more optimistic with his upcoming album. The label is responsable for the single-publishing. They always take this easy-listening stuff. In Paseo de Gracia it was that sweet tango with all the violins. In Ciudad de las ideas it was that boss-rumba thingy. In my opinion its very nice music but I can't feel this kind of aggressivity, I realy love about flamenco, in some of his pieces. In some cases Roma sound too consonant, which is for me not suitable for flamenco. But who cares? The Maestro can do what he want.
But like I said I'm optimistic that we probably could hear some real flamenco on his upcoming album..

Who called it Flamenco (apart from Deniz!)?

Don't get me wrong, musically, my first love is flamenco. However, my tastes in music are broad, and I enjoy music for music's sake.

This piece seems to be all about melody, simplicity and mood. And I like it. I like his tone and his melodic sense. This is mood music. Mellow mood music at that.

I'm also half Spanish and half scottish, so a fusion between flamenco and celtic folk musicians is going to appeal to me!

I think the meaning of that music..is probably just the feeling as it flows... I really do like it very much.
