2002 Gerundino

What should I pay for a new unplayed 2002 Gerundino? Does the fact that it is a 2002 mean thet Gerundino didn't complete the guitar himself? A little history I guess...

Hi El Polaco

Gerundino have stopped building for a long time.
All the guitars from before 2000 are "suspect"
There are quite a few guitars out there that have finished by other builders and are actually Gerundino's, and very good guitars, but not finished by him.

You can check for a few things to know if it is a Gerundino finished by himself.
First, there must be ink-stamps inside he guitar.
second, there must be a carved stamp at the back under the headstock.
That says "Gerundino Ameria"

I guess there are no stamps inside the guitar and no carved stamp at the back under the headstock.

So, to answer your question: for playing, the guitar can be very good, but for investment and selling not.
I would say, ( but who am I to judge) if it is an exeptional good guitar, sounding as a Gerundino, I would be willing to pay 3500 euro for it and keep it for mysef to play on.

All the best with your desicion,
Peter.

Thanks for all the info! I wlll have the seller take plhotos of the back neck and inside.
On this guitar, the label is signed and the signature looks like Gerundinos.
I noticed that the Gerundino/Gonzalez guitars have 2 labels inside and only the Gonzalez label is signed. The Gerundino label is not signed.

Thanks again.

One other detail not mentioned above.

Gerundino took the point off the heel. Almost as if to say, that's a nuisance, just rasp it off.

My guess is that this was to stop future damage and make the guitar more serviceable in use. It's a nice personal touch and no other maker does this to my knowledge.

Jim.

My 1978 Melero (San Fernando) has the point of the heel matado too, not much, barely noticable, though this could be due to restoration. My Gerundino is the same, barely noticable, though never restored.

matado

Nice term. Yes, slight and just a triangle across the thickness of the back veneer.
