"Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I...

Thought that might catch your attention. Willie Nelson has just published a memoir entitled, "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I'm Dead." It is filled with the wit and wisdom of Willie on the road. What's even better, Kinky Friedman has written the introduction. For those unfamiliar with Kinky Friedman, he is a Jewish country-and-western singer, irreverent icon, and all-around bon-vivant. Kinky ran for governor of Texas a few years ago (and lost). I saw him many years ago at the old Cellar Door in Washington, DC. Anyway, Willie is the star of the book. Should be interesting.

Cheers,

Bill

At the moment I don't remember precisely where it was, but a while back I was eating at a restaurant here in Austin. From the booth behind me I heard a political discussion. Not that rare here in the state capital...but this was an extremely rare political conversation. I managed to look behind me, hoping not to be too obvious. It was Kinky and three of his political consultants. The consultants sounded like pros, but Kinky was definitely taking them outside their usual orbits.

Too bad they stole...uhh... I mean paraphrased the famous quote of the great Rahsaan Roland Kirk.

"When I die I want them to play the BLACK AND CRAZY BLUES, I want to be cremated, put in a bag of pot and I want beautiful people to smoke me and hope they got something out of it. "

He also said:

Bright moments! Bright moments! Like making love on a leaky water bed in a Holiday Inn!

If Rahsaan had sung country you could have called him Kinky Kirk, Or maybe Blind Willie, or Capt.Kirk... God I love that mans music.

Thanks Bill, I'm really looking forward to reading Willies memoirs.

I'm chuckling, read on Dave. I hope it is satisfying. I enjoyed Keef Richards bio meself.

You must understand for some guitar makers, not all, Willie Nelson models problematic behavior. He has tortured and outdone the CIA prison manual in administering stress positions to his guitar for several decades. Willie is a sadist to guitars much like his nefarious English cohort Pete Townsend. Only Willie tortures her over long periods of time whilst Petey quickly smashes her head and cracks her body like an airplane crash.

Keef on the other hand only smashes his own coconut.

And they must have lifted that title from Rahsaan Roland Kirk who is famous for saying that at shows in his proto rap called Bright Moments.
