RE: Antonio Rey play Andalusian Guit... (in reply to amigo

In my life, sometimes I search for inspiration, the inner knowledge of the secret processes that govern our lives, and self-realisation.

Sometimes I seek beauty, other times I cherish simplicity, and the pure forms of nature.

But right now, I just want popcorn.

Nice post!

It's a pity Antonio doesn't play more rasqueados and mix up the techniques a bit. I always wanted to listen to another guitarist with strong technique playing one of these guitars. But just playing picado was a bit disappointing for me. It sounds loud but doesn't really display the character and full range of sounds that the guitar has.

Hope he did get rid of that Reyes which he played recently. It had no dynamics. Much better sound now.

Seems that Ruben gave him some lessons in his early age too!

i think andalusian guitars are not to be under estimated, Paco Navarro has many guitars including condes and his favorite now (which he recently just got) is andalusian, watch him play it here:

for gods sake, just listen to the guitar itself and forget about ruben who is associated with this. its not fair to judge these guitars just because of ruben. i think they are good sounding guitars, and i do have a friend (former student of ruben) who owns one and performs with in it many shows

I think you're getting ahead of yourself, no one has freaked out about Ruben yet. In fact I feel like a lot of the comments have been pretty diplomatic.....

i think so too, nobody has freaked out on Ruben yet :D
these guitars seem to be very loud, well balanced, but to me ultimately they sound like plastic...

The guitar sounds decent, but I think nobody ever claimed they were pieces of trash, just overpriced and of questionable origin.

Also, Paco has a video he names "Alegrias para Ruben Diaz", and stuff like that makes me think Ruben is just paying everyone off.

What does that mean exactly?

It means the sound is lacking character, warmth, and complexity.

Have you ever heard a reed instrument played with a plastic reed vs a wooden one?

Instead of trying to rub your prof in everyone's face every chance you get (newsflash - no one cares), maybe you should try educating yourself about the art and science of music.

Chester is spot on...i wouldn't have been able to say it better myself...about the guitar that is...
there is no doubt that they're good guitars, but to me they're lacking character...of course, it's pretty obnoxious that there is nothing to be known about where these guitars exactly come from...but that's not the reason i'm not going to buy one...

they seem overpriced on their website, but the people who i know who got them , either got it 1- for free or 2- under $3000. how? i dont really know, theres something going on for sure...

sure, the guitar might sound like plastic, but I think the best judgement comes when you physically try it out yourself (I am curious myself)

the question is, in todays economy in Spain, you really think Ruben is rich enough to pay Rey and Navarro and others to play it?? makes no sense he who had to move back to his malaga home because he lost business and students, would be rich enough?

Rey and Navarro are just friends of Ruben, just like other famous flamencos who are friends with him, just like PDL . etc.

Well, I thought it was a reasonable question. The question wasn't directed to you, yet you put words in my mouth and respond with a totally uncalled for insult.

Why?

Ahmad, did you join the dark side?

Yojimbo, it's because you're a great fan of Ruben, who has lost all respect from most members here due to his behaviour...and you jump at every chance to promote and defend him...I can certainly understand both sides, but just aware of that...

Im not trying to defend ruben or yojombi, not taking any side, i just think they are good guitars that i would like to try one day out of curiosity and see for myself by comparison with non-andlausian guitars.
I would have asked the same question about the "plastic" sound of it,if yojimbi didnt ask

There was no mention of Ruben in my question, yet Chester posts a very insulting reply. It was totally uncalled for.

If you were just anyone it might have been a reasonable question. Thing is, I've been noticing your behavior ever since you joined the foro and recognized a trend. Your posts are almost never positive (I would say never but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt) and you usually have some sort of agenda - usually involving an attempt to vindicate your early career here as a Diaz fanboy.

As for 'putting words in your mouth' - see your latest post on the other Antonio Rey thread - I can hear the giggles from here.

I have nothing against Ruben Diaz nor his guitars. I just think you're acting in a very obnoxious way by baiting us so you can then pull out 'elitists' or whatever word of the day happened to come up on your toilet paper roll that morning.

Seriously, how come I understood what 'sounds like plastic' meant? Because I did my homework and am educated enough to have an informed opinion on the subject. That's all I'm asking of you.
