Anybody else notice in the last week or so that even the 1080p hi def videos on youtube all look pixelated? The audio is severely downgraded as well now.
It's ok at my end, so something is dragging down the frame rate and losing packets. Have you rebooted your router? If that is not it, then your provider, or Youtube, may be having problems with their Point-of-Presence (PoP) connection in your area.
You might be able to find a free software tool to monitor data transfer rates from particular web sites and check Youtube.
Youtube has been terrible over the last 1-2 months. I no longer can load a video and watch it all the way through whenever I want. It will only load while I'm currently watching. Unfortunately, it doesn't always load fast enough, so many times I am stuck waiting. It's really annoying. The weird thing is it doesn't matter if the video is 30 seconds, or 30 minutes.
I'm pretty sure it's a youtube problem. Over the last month, I've been in 3 different countries and have used many different internet connections and computers, all with the same annoying problem.
The thing that annoys me is that some videos are being boosted in terms of loading speed and others arent. I dont expect youtube to become transparent about such of their policies though. :S

I think thats because the billion videos are hosted on different servers and some servers might be extremely busy sometimes (there are the slow videos you experience) where at the same time others aren't (the faster loading videos). I am not sure, maybe simon knows better but thats my guess.
Something is definately going on in my area obviously.
I think it should be faster , mine is not that great as i live far far away , but i just did the test you mentioned and i get
28.53 Mb's 5.15 Upload ping 15ms...
I dont know but it may be you have a problem more with the contention ratio , I have that problem at tea time ,,,,
I may not be able to explain it , but although you have the facility of broadband , when everyone wants it at the same time you get knocked back a bit ...
maybe better to say this I found ....
the contention ratio is the ratio of the potential maximum demand to the actual bandwidth. The higher the contention ratio, the greater the number of users that may be trying to use the actual bandwidth at any one time and, therefore, the lower the effective bandwidth offered, especially at peak times.
