RE: "Can't do it on steel strin... (in reply to britguy

A long time ago I was sitting in a pub where there was a resident electric player/singer doing cover numbers.
He sat down beside me at the interval and said "Hey why don't you do a bit of that Flamenco stuff....come on man"

I said "Man, you really can't do it on that kinda guitar", but he insisted.

I was pretty well on after about 4 pints so said "Ach OK..why not..."

So I get on stage with his electric, which had Ultra Light Gauge strings fitted and start doing Tarantas. (safe option when drunk )

I got about a minute into it and started a pretty strong, dramatic rasgueado in F#minor.

One by one I heard the first, then second, then third strings go "poing" as they snapped.

Finished off by playing and singing a Delta Blues number on the three remaining bass strings.

The guy never lent me his guitar again.

cheers,

Ron

Well there's Jaco Abel, who plays flamenco on a electric guitar...he has a genuine jazz and flamenco background but to be honest I think it sounds like crap because he just transfers flamenco 1:1 to the electric guitar. It just sounds like an inferior version of the same thing. I think he could have been an amazing player on a nylon guitar.
