RE: Online Lessons Jason Vs. Jose (in reply to Kalo)
I have had both of them for 2 months
Jason- as you said, more of that stuff, i find his stuff is electronically slowed down, not real-time slow down videos. its exactly the stuff he has on youtube, except covering more palos and more of that sylibus stuff. his stuff is HARDER than tanakas, and sometime stuff are modern. the gap between the levels he has are too big!
Jose- has midi, he is more in depth in explanation, he is slower (that it can get boring sometimes) his stuff is EASIER and has more traditional material. the gap between the levels he has is good enough. he breaks everything down VERY WELL and plays in real time slowed down
personally i think for those starting out , go with Jose, but if you are really advanced, then go with Jason. I personally learned a lot more from Jose than Jason

Just curious to know if anyone has used either Jason's online lessons or Jose's!
I used them both

Okay, so my questions is....Does Jose's website offer the same thing via tab??
no he doesn't .. but you really won't need any tab to learn his material because he breaks everything and talks about every detail ... he offers tabs but no midi
-if you think you're more likely to be a beginner-intermediate player go for Tanaka but keep in mind that jose has many advanced stuff -if you think you're an intermediate-advance player go for Mcguire
RE: Online Lessons Jason Vs. Jose (in reply to Kalo)
I've used both sites....swapping back and forth between the two...one month minimum sign up with each....learnt lots from both...different ways of communicating on each...
Also used Adam del Monte's online lessons....fewer lessons but very detailed with tabs and notation....no slowed down video though. Might be worth checking out....you buy individual lessons rather than subscribe: https://www.newlearningvision.com/
RE: Online Lessons Jason Vs. Jose (in reply to Kalo)
Is Jose actively keeping up with his website? I have not seen anything posted at all in quite a few months, not even a mention of what he has been up to.
I agree with Pawo, using both Jose's and Jason's site along with Adam and Ricardo's lessons is the best way to go.
RE: Online Lessons Jason Vs. Jose (in reply to Kalo)
I personally think Adam has the most useful, in-depth and most authentically flamenco lessons out there. He is a fantastic player but also a great teacher. I found Jose and Jason often not really explaining what they are actually doing. I wish Adam had more lessons though.

thank you Kalo I appreciate your nice comment

My question to him is what level did you start out playing when you took lessons from Jose's site...
my level was mmmm ... 5 years (or little bit more) of learning classical guitar and some flamenco after that .. but I wasn't good at flamenco IMO
anyway before joining tanaka I was exactly at this level, you can see i had problems with rasgueados and kinda still :

RE: Online Lessons Jason Vs. Jose (in reply to Kalo)
I have used Jose's site and found it to be more than worth the money. I can't say I ever learned any of his tunes all the way through, mostly because I didn't care for a lot of the stuff... All of the technique was helpful though. I like the fact that he gives a lot of information (to much at times), but to much is better than not enough... And I think one is better off to learn the tunes all the way through. I'm sure I would have picked up something from each that would have been useful to me in the future. Plus the more one learns the easier it is to learn, thus speeding up the whole process...
I do wish he would show you technique, and then some music which utilizes what you just learned. This encourages practice and gives a more sound reason behind what you have learned. This seems like it would bring some flow to his program. For anyone who's past the stage of an out and out beginner, you don't really know what the recommended starting point should be.
When I started I took the subscription option which was supposed to let you download videos. What I experienced was that you could only download some of the videos. So to me the $15 subscription is a better choice.
It does seem like Jose isn't adding new material to his site, though he already has a lot posted. I plan on trying Jason's site also soon.
Also I'm going to beg Ricardo for some Skype lessons. Its still not as good as lessons in person by any means, but its better than no lessons at all. I get the feeling that Ricardo would be as flexible as he could be to help someone out as long as you work on what he teaches, and keep him paid up...
2013 will be my year to study in Spain, and that's already decided! I have already started saving for my first 1 month trip... If I go over and live it, I will learn it...
RE: Online Lessons Jason Vs. Jose (in reply to Kalo)
I find the dance and cante accompaniment videos at jasons site help me a lot, and there is enough beginner stuff to make the intermediate stuff feel easier
I have been taking little remates or llamadas and other little ideas out of the harder falsetas, sometimes just one or 2 compas worth of the falseta
now im starting to tackle some of the intermediate ones and they are making sense

This is why I wish someone would put a website out for beginner/intermediate stuff...
I'd struggled with the same issue, but.... In the end it is all about you studying. I made the mistake subscribing to a lot of different websites, buying some books /dvds and all was to hard to begin, until I just picked something reasonably and started studying.

Hey Kalo,
As for how I'm learning flamenco now... I'm still subscribing to Jose's site. For what it is, I think its great. I'm sure that I have learned $100s worth of stuff from him. I didn't mean to sound like I was putting it down or anything, just pointing out a few things which I thought could be better.
I also sit around with records and learn stuff that way. It gets a little more complex, but is a great way to learn, and its free and helps the ear... If I hear something on Youtube which I like, I do my best to learn it a little at a time...
I live in Las Vegas and we don't have but a few flamencos here. One guy don't really have the time to give lessons, and the other guy was just a wreck. I took 3 lessons from him back in December and his state of drunkenness got deeper and deeper with each lesson. Finely on my third lesson, he couldn't sit up, that's when I called it quits... LOL I'm not a prude and have no problem with getting on a good drunk, I just don't want to pay someone for lessons when they are so blown away that they can't speak...
Some time back I had per posed that some of us get a Skype study group going. If everyone in the group was subscribed to the same site, we could take the same lessons and get together on Skype to talk about them and help one another. The idea never got off the ground, and I'm probably partly to blame for that.

Hey Shawn, to bad about the teacher situation. One not having the time to teach, and the other to WASTED to teach
The Skype study group seems like a great idea

Kalo take my word and join Jose, you won't regret it
Thanks Elie, I am highly considering Jose's for sure and hopefully I can find some stuff that I can learn.
One of things I think would be cool is to learn some styles and hopefully Jose offers backing Palmas tracks that he uses in his video...
I would love to learn then post my playing so you can all see if I am on the right track...

@ Elie, I knew you would bring up the Lluvia Tangos! That's also been the one I have been waiting on! He has not updated it yet. To tell you the truth, I haven't noticed any new lessons added on there during my membership. I joined in January, stopped for most of March, and rejoined last week. I Love his Lluvia Tangos, and am thinking of just learning it from the slowed down performance. That is also one of the videos that you can download, so that would make it a little easier...
@ Kalo, Jose only has a few backing tracks on the site. He does offer backing tracks on iTunes though. I have bought a few from him and found them to be helpful. Come on and sign up, after all its only $15 for the basic monthly. I promise you'll learn more than $15 worth of stuff in a month...
Maybe we can get a Skype study group going after all... I think that at least it would be worth a try...

thank you for the reply Shawn actually I've already learned the second Lluvia from the slowed down performance I just hoped he adds more falsetas from the original track but he seems to add falsetas not related the original one
