RE: Got a new dog! (in reply to Escribano

Dr. Fitzgerald, our dog died last year, and every time we see a nice dog we're reminded of the loss. No idea how long we'll "enjoy" our greater freedom in going to museums etc....

Looks like a nice lass!

Teach your dog to stay in the car for some 4 - 5 hours (in the shade of course) when its small. Then you can go to museums etc. No problem. Nimbus, my dog, loves the car and he stays totally calm there as long as its not to hot. He hasnt eaten any parts yet and he´s 8 years old. He has even slept full nights there, no problem. When I get back, he´s still sleepy and wants to continue sleeping.

I like reading of such, hoping it to indicate generally possible condition.
Because, in special literature it is usually emphasized that a dog should not be left alone for more than a very short period of time.
Wolve packs always stay in contact when roaming separately, and dogs being even more fixated on their ( human ) pals whilst without time estimation, are being said to be craving badly already after a very short time of separation.

What remains inadequate owning without doubt, is what a large number of owners do; leaving their dogs alone for many hours every day. Agony, not only but especially for single dogs.

That'd work if
a) you could be sure to find a shady place that was cool enough
b) you didn't have to park in a place with loud traffic and lots of people
c) public garages had enough fresh air

Been there; tried it; didn't like it (neither did Fitz)

Number 2 is not a problem in my case. Nimbus doesnt care. He sleeps. I´ve gone back many times to see if he was ok... And ZZZZZZ

Number 1.... Germany, autumn, winter, and very often spring and summer... Its always shady, because its either cloudey or raining. (I know it, I´ve been there)

Number 3... Dunno... I think there´s air enough, but I agree, its a bad solution.

The fact is that it is a solution to leave your dog in the car for some time. Its been that for me the 8 years I´ve had Nimbus. And I live in Spain... I dont leave him (of course) in the car in summer time during the day.
