Maybe its time to bight the bullet and get acrylics? The nail on my I finger split last year, I super glued it a few times and it kept opening up. I was in the middle of cutting an album and had a lot of shows, and in the end got some acrylics. It took a few days to get my tone back to normal, like switching brands of strings, something you have to adapt to. Not sure it was worth it though. I had them filled a few times, but finely just let my nails grow and filed the acrylic off week after week. The only thing I liked about those things was I felt like I could jam them through a car door if I ever needed to... Still I would do it again if I had a split. One word of advice I have, is if a nail splits, don't cut it if your going to get acrylics. Just go to the shop and tell them you want your nails covered in acrylic. Then you can keep the shape and length. I like the sound and feel of my natural nails, but then again, I don't do much in the way of dance accompaniment. If I did, I would be back at the nail parlor pronto!

I did try nail hardener and stuff for a while, but found that the nails were more brittle than ever , so I just stopped and after that a cracked a few , a bit then it was ok , I havent broke one for ages , I think now that putting too much stuff on them stops them from being healthy, of course we are all a bit different and maybe mine are stronger than some others , it also depends on how long they are , I see some players with nails too long for my liking , and the longer they are the more chance of a break, mine are just above the top of the finger except the pinky which is a bit longer , and the thumb is longer as well of course , but not too much,,, quote:
"You start off playing guitar to get chicks and you end up talking with middle-aged men about your fingernails." ....Because were worth it
