Firstly, I know there's various metronome sites/apps around so if this is considered stepping on toes then apologies.
Anyway, now that's out of the way - I am thinking about making a metronome specifically for flamenco. Not just for timing with electronic beeps but real palmas and cajon samples for a start. I'm thinking an online version and maybe also one for iPhone and Android. This will be in my spare time and my intention will be for it to be free so not trying to make any money here.
Basically I want it to have everything a flamenco guitarist could want which is where you all come in. So, if you could have any feature you wanted in a virtual metronome what would it be?

You start playing and the metronome locks on to your rhythm. After a few cycles starts syncopating the rhythm in Jerez, Sevilla, Cordoba or Cadiz styles. (selectable).
If you go out of compás in error, the metronome recognizes the error and resets and tries to get back in sync with you until you're both back together again..
That's a proper 21st century metronome, not just a programmed click/sound generator.
Get workin' on it..
Worldwide sales will probably net you over $5000 over the next 3 years, so be prepared to give up your job and life and party with Bill Gates, Bill Clinton and Bowie and Jagger. ..
The BeatVibe app sounds really good. I don't have an iPhone unfortunately and I was swayed more by the fact that I certainly hadn't seen a decent option for Android.
Ron.M Thanks, shall i get it to play your guitar for you too? ;) Just joking.
If there's decent options out there then I'm not going to reinvent the wheel as it were, I'll be happy to just use them, just hadn't found exactly what I wanted yet so though why not do it myself.
And as I said, wanted it to be something free and accessible to all!
Thanks again for the answers. Will wait and see what comes out. Just thought I'd try BeatVibe on an iPod just now until I saw it was 8.99 It sounds very good so may be worth every penny but I was looking to do something free for everyone to help them learn or whatever. Just giving something back! :)
The idea is something free for everyone, and simple enough that it is no hassle to use for practicing with and does let you get on with the job of actually playing without being distracted.
- good sound, authentic palmas - create own patterns - program patterns in sequence/cycles - the length of 1 cycle must be adjustable (12, 6, 4, 3 beats) - AT LEAST 2 independent layers during playback
especially the last point has is neglected in all metronomes ive seen so far.
i'm actually looking forward for Jason's Doctor Compas for the iphone. Looks pretty good on youtube. Would like if it had 12 dots and a dot would glow when it's that beat instead of numbers.
