I've heard of those ... cats ... hairless ones, ...

Please make use of healthy reason.
These utterly perverse people who bred hairless and doll cats etc. should have been thrown into prison.

Hair, claws and all that a cat naturally has belongs to it like wood to a tree.

How sick must people be to produce naked cats. Cats without noses. Cats entirely exposed to arbitraryness, dogs with hair or skin hanging over their eyes, blinding them. Dogs of the size of rats ( yet with conflicting instincts for wolves body size ), shivering skinny specimens, or rolls on paws and all that.

People that take perfetcly healthy animals to cripple them whether with scissors or genetically are cases for the psychatry and court. And their clients too.

Sorry to say, not meaning you personally. ( You certainly didn´t know what it means to a instinctly driven animal like a cat to live without hair, aside of being unshielded.)

Ruphus you say this as if they were geneticlly modified to have no hair. These breeds of hairless cats have been reported throughout history

I can kind of see where Ruphus is coming from...some peoples own selfishness disregard for anything else, think that everything was put here on earth for us and to make our life's eazyer ...let modify a living being to make it cuter to us or less likely to destroy our furniture or eazyer to clean...its very very selfish

not talking of people that own a hairless cats now, they here and living beings ...talking about the people that originally did the breading

Yes, Florian nailed it precisely.
Eventhough I just learned from you that hairless cats are around for a long while, the historical routine doesn´t matter in sight of cruel mentality that made such stay around.

It does not matter whether someone took a mutation and decided to make a breed of it, whether it was intentionally bred from start or produced by todays genetical technology. It remains the dismiss of wellbeing of creature and complete lack of empathy that makes such disfigurement retain.
A hairless cat would not only not survive in nature for several reasons, but be individually handicaped from the get go. And it takes only the tiniest amount of attantiveness to figure that.
What adds to it is the fact that cats are the most genetically incorruptible of all domesticated species. Which is why all the breeding attempts to generate new colour configurations, tame instincts and produce as much perverse morphology like with dogs have vastly failed. ( With new colour aims having succeeded only a few years ago and doll cats been continued mutation.) It will also mean that hairless cats will be missing their fur and suffering slack of hair care routines yet after thousands of generations, aside of the furs special tasks like climate protection, considerable protection in cat fights and orientation in darkness. All essential for a cats life.

If unnaturally limited with feeling into fellow species, maybe one would be able to associate human concerns still.
Hence, how would one think if there be human breeds without the human speciality of consciousness, so that they could be sent into coal mines and other works and generate outcome to the pleasure of their breeders?

If that be an ethical issue, any deformation against species primare nature, behaviour and physiology presents just the same infringement.
Sick cat breeds like the naked sorts, or those with no noses constantly weeping ( intended to be looking cute; how sick is that!!?) or doll cats who void of their distinct independency and defense being helplessly exposed to whatever treatment ( makes me mad to just think of ), thanks to cats general gentical resistance are nothing yet compared to what has been done to dogs.

I have seen American dog breeder promotion events on TV that make you dispair on fellow humans´insensitivity and unspeakable perversity.
They seem to know no halt with producing the most unthinkable pity misshapes and cripplings.

People so detouched that they cannot appreciate natural beauty, just logically should not be allowed to interfere into creatures physical and mental appearance.

Just like with Igor.
With Main Coons, so beautiful and robust by nature in the way they originally come from farms in North America and Canada, I thought I was getting such when I took him from a breeder as a kitten. But I didn´t know that this kind of profession had gone one other time, even with this race to "improve" it. Apparently mixed with Persian cats for to make the fur more soft. - Making it less weatherproof and due to brushing. And coming up with other arbitrary nonesense of outer appearance like position of lower jaw etc. ( Don´t ask me how these people come up with their **** criteria.)
Result: Though stemming from a perfect and robust race, it turned out that Igor has sceleton issues and even a cardiac defect.
( And as he seems especially good looking to that kind of specialists I once was asked to let him breed - passing on his defects one more time - which I refused.)

Actually it must be considered an exception that he has reached 14 years with all in all good health and beautiful temper.
For, at least "modified" Main Coons like him, as I meanwhile found out won´t get much older than 13 years in average.
-

Anyway, if you see a naked cat and don´t feel the perversity, then some more investigation and empathy into nature should do you good.

Perverted races should be ended by no further obtainment of such kittens and puppies.

I had a Maine Coon act, he was totally cool. Used to sleep in the guitar case. I got picture of him somewhere. They are very smart cats, this guy invented all kinds of games that he would play to show off. The greatest was when he perched on the banister outside the bathroom door when you took a shower. He would sit there like a circus loin and greet you in the morning after your shower. He was a fantastic cat.

Hi Melissa,

Welcome to the foro! :O)

Stephen,

Funny how Igor makes me think of lions a lot, but used to most of all when he was a kitten.
He, when toddling along, would throw ahead his uncommonly big paws so loosely and sway in the same time, exactly like lions do.

Science says small cats were to be 1:1 images of the great sepcimens, anyway.
Which is in fact why there were diffculties with categorizing them, and finally opted to devide big and small by their eating postures.
From there, big cats are being distinguished by how they rest down completely, often times using their front paws to fixate the chunk of meat while pulling.
Whereas small cats being distinguished by how they keep the chunk in front and merely chew off the piece.

This way cheetahs still count as small cats while bobcats already being considered of the big ones, though much smaller in body size than cheetahs.
