RE: Devoe Bracing (in reply to Guest

I believe Devoe's bracing is basically Torres with some tweeks.

Hmmm,

I 'll try it tonite but I didn't expect spruce to be see-through. Are we sure it is not x-rays? :)

Yes spruce is see-through with light inside the guitar

The Devoe looks like Torres puro. (except the kite is not totally closed) But we don't know how he works the top plate.

Whoever braced that HSL was high off glue fumes.

I think if Picasso built guitars he would have braced liked that HSL. Most HSL F Extras I have examined have a Conde style bracing pattern. There was a brief moment they were "experimenting" with a different bracing pattern and I was told it didn't work out.

My Rio Devoe just sold and I took this pic of the interior bracing in case any of the luthiers here may find it interesting.

It seems to me that guitars braced 5 across are louder but also less refined and more old-school flamenco sounding than their 7 braced cousins which have a more modern and articulate sound.

Hope the pic is worth something to someone.

It is similar to a 1917 Santos classical pattern I have. The original top thickness was around 1.8 mm over all. The Santos pattern had certain brace taperings and mostly unnoticeable fine tuning facets.

Here is a 2006 Sanchis-Lopez F.Extra blanca that I owned years ago .... wonderful basses and crap everything else ... maybe I got a bad one but for their top of the line model it was terrible:

Its an old trick. Lets just tmrow the baces in to guitar and glue them on where they landed.

The DeVoe is a typical or standard bracing system. It works very well on a classical guitar.

You shove a Christmas tree inside the guitar a turn the lights on!

Thank you for sharing those bracing patterns Neal. Speaking about bracing systems is like talking religion, super subjective and faith based. However I would say that 7 fan guitars can be as big and loud as 5 fan guitars. It's all about the maker not the sticks.
