Challenge Rincones de loles

Hey guys! This is going to be the advanced challenge Rincones de loles.

I think if some people like challenges more with official judging and prices, than we should start an additional advanced challenge beside of this one here. This one here is like the quick challenges but only ...long. ;.)

Keep an eye on this post here for possible updates. No matter what could be decided below, it has to written down in this post here to become valid.

Basic idea of this challenge:
1. It helps you to become better no matter if you will be able to play that in the end or not. The challenge gives you a target that you can fight for. The journey is the reward. There will be no judging. You judge your own playing. Just dont cheat yourself and you can celebrate your improvement afterwards. Don´t be scared, its always good to practice faletas which are above your level. Just practice slow and seriously. In future when you got better you pack out the things you learned which were to hard for you in past and you can do it. A simple principle as in sports, break your barriers. Learn together fight together and lets celebrate the outcome together. Your playing wont be judged officially. There will be no rating of each player. Your personal improvement and performance in public is the benefit.

Challenge composition:Rincones de Lolés of Tomatito. Album Guitarra gitana.

TAB:rincones de loles tab (Thank you Jimi!)

MP3: Rincones de Loles mp3

Comment to the composition:
This composition should enhance your skills in getting variation in your compas strumming, you will learn to deal with rhythmically difficult falsetas, you will develop your thumb technique and several useful ways of playing rasguados. The good thing about this bulerias is that its technically not too difficult.

Main Rules:
See the rules as chance to improve and try to obey them. (Otherwise..you wont get the best results you could)

1. Only me gets disqualifyed if breaking one of the rules. No one else. The rest has to obey just No2,6 and 9
2. Get your best attempt entry in ON TIME: may1st 2011
3. All falsetas have to be played in the order of the record.
4. minor changes in the falsetas are allowed to make the development of personal playing character possible
5. play that at original speed of the CD record.
6. No "cheating" (editing, punching-in, cut and paste, electronic speeding up..etc)
7. No orchestration allowed
8. Your guitar is the only one that can be heard. Palmas, metronome, own beats or compas loops are fine.
9. share your result with us, recorded on video, post it on youtube with a link to this tread here.
10. If you are done before deadline you are welcome to post earlier.
11. If you are stuck, you are allowed to share and discuss occurring problems. Also with video.

Don´t cheat yourself, be serious.

Start date: now!
End date: May 1st 2011 EDIT: New deadline is whenever you like. I just got bursitis in my right elbow and have to stop playing for a while.Sorry but healing is more important than the challenge.

Keep in mind. Fair play. Lets become better together.

Guitar players who take the challenge:

Doitsujin
Arash
Florian
tilsitter
Deniz
Deteresa1
xirdneH_imiJ
Pimientito

The only ones here who could play that are Jason M, Grisha, and Ricardo.

Doit, dont kid yourself man, even with your rediculous 7 month deadline, you will
never be able to play this.

So dont kill youself trying to do it. Especially if its to prove a point to me, cause i dont have the time to tackle something like this right now.
I'm sticking with the Quick Challenges. They only take a day or 2.

Complaining.... as expected.
You are so poor. Insulting, than wimping out. Get out of my sight.

I was just taking a quick look at this. The rhythm is tricky on this one. In my opinion, Tomatito knows the Bulerias palo better than anybody else.

Check out the Challenge thread, i posted days ago that i was not doing the advanced challenge this year.

rincones was never planned to be in the advanced just before very short time. it was his personal challenge.
i would have loved to hear you play no matter in which challenge. the last thing was June 2009! wow time flies...
but of course i respect that you say you have no time... although the deadline was very generous... but ok, your decision.

RE: Challenge of MANLINESS!!! (in reply to XXX

i would recommend if i may, that we have both advanced challenges - the one we originally planned upon, with a shorter deadline, say december, one that leaves room for interpretation and is not all about technique - that's why i suggested rondena, but it could be another palo; AND have Rincónes de Lolés with a may deadline...i think it's very much doable...
if you guys agree we should then find something to learn - and since Todd, the previous winner said he wouldn't participate in this one, it may not be a bad idea to ask him to decide it for us (taking into account our opinions) because he knows what's required of each piece...

i can safely say i could play this bulería at a slower speed, but if i can get it up to Tomatito's, is a big question...but i want to!

Everybody knows that Ricardo, Jason and Grisha are the best players here Todd. No need to mention this.

But don't underestimate Doit the Barbarian.

Anyway, now i am really curious and i will try my best at this one.
Even if the result would totally suck.
Because i am sure that this will improve my skills.
My goal is different than yours anyways.

Ok, no more pussy talk.
I'm still in. Write my name in the list Doit.
Original speed.

Ok guys Im officially confused now. There are 3 threads on this subject all talking about different pieces. Can you please stop the discussion threads and come to a fixed decision
Im not sure whether we decided on
1. El mandaito.
2.part of el mandaito
3. Rincones de Loles (soon to be renamed cojones de lola)
4 both 1 + 2 or 1 + 3 with different deadlines

OR 5. the one we originally planned on ?? - what was that and what other deadline?

I am not going to try to do 2 advanced pieces ...and I dont think its agood idea to set 2 advanced challenges. Ill be lucky to get the first half of the tomatito done in that time.

Both pieces are suitably challenging IMO but I agree with Todd that the Tomatito one will only be technically possible by a couple of guys here.

As it says in the excellent English version of the notes to "Paseo de los Castaños":

"He uses his thumb and twangs his guitar in a forceful way" !

Very interesting challenge. Too bad I don't have the technical skills to even start the first few measures. Although i'm interested in seeing what kind of progress you guys will accomplish. Play on players.

RE: Challenge Rincones de loles (in reply to Doitsujin

Man, Im so happy now!
I talked with Todd via pm. All is fine now and nobody is mad anymore.

Well people in anger tell what they think no matter if somebody gets personally hurt. I just want to say that whatever I said, Im always willing to think seriously about different opinions and also change my mind when the other opinion makes more sense than mine. Its too difficult to rollup all what has happened in past. So, lets forget it and reset.
That means. No more provocation from my side. Todd is a great player no matter what I wrote the last days here in anger. Im honestly sorry for saying that hes only good because of sound engineering. Its obvious that hes a fantastic player.

What does that mean to the challenge. The rules are open. Everybody is free to do it as one could. Slowing down is also allowed. I think the bulerias is full of usefull techniques that are worth to learn. Because the rules are open now and the bulerias has around 9 falsetas I guess nobody would do the whole thing right? :./ Could be that the challenge falls apart because nobody has real inspiration without strict rules.
So If the majority thinks we better start another challenge with stricter rules but with a composition which more people can join and that is learnable in a short time to keep the enthusiasm up. Than we should chalcel this one here and start a shorter one.

Well anyway. No matter what we decide. I will try to entertain the foro people till deadline with my attempt on this buleria at full speed. I have to. And I will take all kind of comments without freaking out.. =)

Todd thank you for the pm conversation. You are really a nice guy!

EDIT: I renamed the challenge to challenge rincones de loles because callenge of manliness sounds idiotic.

let both challenges go on, i want to play this piece but in those plenty of months remaining i think i have the capacity to learn something else too with stricter rules, judges etc...

no, both challenges! they have different deadlines and are of different character. We can still additionally have, and probably WILL have another challenge which ends in December. We, the people who committed to Rincones, should also accomplish it until May! I know myself, if this challenge wouldnt be i would lost interest and discipline in learning it!
