OK, who else has noticed Andy's version is Fuera de compas? Hmmmmmmm... Andy should have played to a click track.

So beware that folks!

yup. it was clear when kozz tried to put his playing to a backing track. but it works fine for just a reference. he doesn't have to play perfect.

however, YOU do.

it's getting close, folks!

Thats so true my apprentice!
I was totally off track, meaning I had no clue what I was doin....
Just removed removed the tracks, which I thought were removed allready.

Sorry guys/girls...but YOU have to play correct, but I don't want to put too much pressure on your shoulders because they should be relaxed

Succes!

RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to at_leo_87

Yes, we must be better than Andy but OK, I don't think we can beat Moraito - still it does seem a bit unfair for the beginners but something we must bear!

Ha Ha. I thought that the problem originated from Kozz! And to be fair, because of slight acceleration and deceleration by Andy, which I don't mind.

But Andy does miss a beat coming out of the bass run, and I think he blows it at the end by missing a beat there... he jumps the gun. A common problem with us guys so I hear!

Well its going Ok so far , Personally I don't think we should use any reverb, I don't think I will because I want to keep the sound of the guitar clear, for the challenge ..so those mistakes will really ring out !!
and a very simple rhythm track , it's not like it is a live concert ...
and I keep changing my mind about one or two notes and fingerings ,,, that doesn't help.
The best thing about this , for me , is getting some feedback from better players. It's worth entering just for that alone.
I must admit I have been learning the rest of it as it has some nice bits in but I haven't got to the end yet.
The challenge bit I play over and over , it's driving my girl nuts ....
......CAN'T YOU PLAY SOMETHING ELSE !!..........
..........Oh yeah .. sorry ...ok .. Home On the Range ,,,, that'll do.....

RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to El Kiko

Hi All

It is great disappointment that I have to forfeit. I injured my neck & right shoulder at a performance when I lifted a little amp. I am now not allowed to even lift a laptop bag and playing aggravates the injury.

I left this till last minute to see if I will heal in time to complete the recording.
I apologize to all of you and to Anthony in particular and ask for your understanding.

I will, however, complete the recording when I am healed and submit it for advice and crit.

Thank you so much for this opportunity.
Kind regards
Conrad Pienaar

rico, our judges have very sharp ears and will hear mistakes with or without reverb.
i think it'll be okay if we let the challengers make their recording sound as good as they can.

as for the girlfriend, just close the door!

Thanks guys.

The Physio reckons now that the tingling in finger a is related to a certain neck vertebrae and also the one in finger i.

So apparently the finger bone's connected to the neck bone after all.

Leo .. so the judges have sharp ears eh?... well I'm doomed .....
or maybe not ....I may have to resort to bribery , I wonder how much a Flamenco judge cost these days............

Or better still good old blackmail .....after much research I find out about a certain judge ( or judges ) and there choice of ...erm... ladies underwear ...you know who you are guys......this doesn't have to come out in the general discussions forum ,, it can be avoided ,,,,,,,,,
I feel better now, this challenge is in the bag .......

Make sure you don't label your file with any sort of ID.

This has happened before...(for example.. RonMTangos.mp3..etc)

Hola all,

Sorry I'm not going to manage an upload this time. I've had a busy weekend and have a really long and stressy day at work tomorrow. Tomorrow's tasks are already hanging over me like a black cloud and I just can't face adding the stress of a recording this evening. Sorry

Thanks to the organisers because I have learnt and practised this and will continue to do so. I just have to apologise for not getting my act together this time.

Look forward to hearing and learning from the other uploads.
xx

I just submitted my entry.
I'm not really happy about it though, the recording is in terrible quality and adding a palmas track somehow just didn't work
I think it's the (internal) soundcard from my computer that causes the problems, I do have a good mic. Anyway next challenge I'll hire a studio engineer

I'm really curious about the other entries, when can we listen to them?

Terribly sorry guys, but I have to cancel out to...really did not want to, but I simply did not have enough time to put the practice in that I would have needed for this challenge to sound somewhere remotely good....That said, I will try my absolute hardest to be posting on a future beginners challenge....I'm so much of a beginner that this challenge just seemed to hard to tackle within the hours I did manage to put in....never having played tangos or alzapuas.
Anyway, again sorry....did not mean to sneak out like this at the last moment.
Hope you will have all the other entries in and thank you all for the efforts and setup for doing this challenge....I will keep practicing this piece as I do enjoy it.
Thanks!!

RE: ****Beginners Challenge Fall 201... (in reply to yohan

Your not happy with your entry!!! Wait until you hear mine! I am getting worse not better. At least you can blame your soundcard!

The problem for me is that "I think" I am OK playing it without a compas track, tapping my foot, but when I play with the backing track, I have to concentrate too hard to make all of the accents and to make sure I am in perfect sync with the track. So I make mistakes and the stress of it all makes my playing get worse and I have no bounce anymore, I get wobbly, it sounds forced and retarded and I totally suck major.

This was a tough challenge. I expect to be a cellar dweller again.

I haven't learned from my past mistakes - which is to play and record against a backing track well in advance of the deadline and fix my mistakes and listen critically to what I am doing. I should be doing this all of the time. So why did I submit an entry? Because if I am better or equal to Andy, then I am not a beginner - I should be playing in public with a dance company. So I should be worse and suck.

Nevertheless, Graham, I reserve the right to delete my entry. I will make a decision tomorrow before the deadline and send you an email.

Can the next beginner challenge please be an easy Sevillana?

well my playing isn't that good either
there are some tricky spots in the falseta though.
But don't cancel your entry, the more the better right?

Good to see your guys and girls have spent serious time to get the tango in your fingers.
It isn't unusual that thing doesn't work at well when it comes to recording, for all obvious reasons.

If it doesn't work out playing at tempo set out in the 'rules' I would love to hear it at slower speed.
If you can play it at lower speed, it is only a question of time to play it faster.

IMO better played well at slower speed, than uncontrolled at higher speed.
But maybe your not in then for the competition, but you can show us how far you did get. It is better than withdrawing!
Perhaps Anthony can make a decission on this?

Can't wait to hear the entries!
Goodluck!

Good point. The prob is this stuff is not beginner level. So if a contestant make it groove enought then it will be suspect...
For what i see from your entry on the Curro's buleria chalenge, you have a good compas feeling, so don't cancel your entry. I'm sure you will be one of the good

@yohan
wow i didn't realize you're a beginner, because you done a very good version of Maya's zapateado falseta

Hear Hear!

I've always thought that having too tight "rules" discourages entries.

It's not a test for some Classical Grade at a Music School.

I would be happy to hear anyone's BEST entry regardless of speed, altered parts or capo position.

An entry played slower and with some modified parts could sound so good that it would get my top vote anyway.

cheers,

Ron
