I'm "good"? 
My usual weekend "off-topic" complaint about life in general..

I totally hate when folk (who usually want something from me) phone up and say "Hey..this is Bob (or whatever) Long time no see...How are you doing?"

Usually I am in the middle of doing something, so can't be bothered....so try to drum up the enthusiasm to say "Yeah...OK..." and try to reciprocate the social nicety by saying something like, "Yeah...How are you doing?" (though I'm not in the least interested.. )

"Oh...I'm GOOD!" comes the reply....

(This immediately gets my back up and irritates me.)

GOOD is an F'ing adjective which OTHER people ascribe to you if you are worthy of it.

You don't F'ing well walk around saying "I'm GOOD" for Christ's sake!

(Unless maybe you find yourself in the High Court, facing the Judge and about to be sentenced on child pornography charges.. )

The expression is "I'm WELL"! (for crying out loud!!!)

Jeez! Why does everybody try to annoy me? (and Doit)

why not play with this and next time reply, "i'm ****ing awesome. how are you?"

see if they will feel inadequate.

HAHAHA. . hehe

I also get crazy when some people say "Mahlzeit" at lunchtime instead of "Hallo". I cant explain it in english.. But I felt the same when reading your story Ron.

Ron,

simple answer, its the penitence/curse put on those who left the homeland eire (Ireland) to move to that place Alban (scotland), tis an innate feeling of longing yearning and continued unfulfilment. it drives people to drink, drugs and distraction.

thats why ye can nae be happy !!!!!

Ah widnae be so sure min...

I mean...you've got guys like Bono and that Ronan somebody (boy's band guy) and Daniel O'Donnell that would make you feel like ending it all soonen rather than later!...

Doit...I think I know what you mean...

I totally hate when you've been at some sort of function at a Hotel and you go downstairs with an amazing hangover at breakfast time just to drink a complete jug of orange juice and some stupid ****s who went to bed at 8pm say "Good Morning" in a fake cheery voice and sit down at the table and nervously try to eat their food with impeccable manners and try to engage in polite conversation about the weather...

At these times I secretly wish some really big, ugly, hungover Rugby player would come down and throw up all over the table and say "Oh God.. That feels much better now!"... just to annoy them..

actually i was at a function where i came down to breakfast with my friend, we both sat down with weary heads and two of the relatives of the bride ( our mate was the groom) at the table across from us.

before the breakfast arrived my mate let out the most earth shatteringly loud, disgusting and horrible fart i have ever had the displeasure to witness.

the pair across the way from us nearly died with disgust.....to which my friend retorted "don't blame me, the eejit serving in the bar last nite must'nt have cleaned out the pipes, thats why im suffering today"

i got up and walked off in embarrasment and had breakfast elsewhere.

LoL Ron, mind you in german its just "gut" for good and well, no distinction.
Mahlzeit used to annoy me, then i started to say it also like others its less formal than Hallo IMO. You say hallo if you want to talk with somebody, but when you say Mahlzeit you dont need to take notice of somebody.

IMO.
