It speaks of the time we might waste learning to perform the least critical tasks. But I suppose there had to be no TV, video/board games nor other forms of simple home entertainment available in that village.

Or it could just be because it's damn difficult to do, and hence a challenge!

cheers,

Ron

I reckon that this is a viral marketing video from Yell and a fake - watch the last few frames before it apparently goes through the letter box... that is where post-production motion graphics takes over. It is almost sucked in. Close but no cigar

Hmm...I dunno Simon,

I was looking at the faces of the folk watching (some of them pretty young) and unless they were very good actors, the thing actually happened as it is shown.
If it had bounced off and made to look like it was going in by post-production techniques then I think the reactions would have been different..even with rehearsal?

I do take your point though about Yell....that does make the thing somewhat suspicious.

cheers,

Ron

A viral marketing video would have used a full crew and everyone would be actors.

But that isn't why I am sceptical. Viral marketing always has a reason. The Yellow Pages never used to fit through the standard UK letter box but from July 2010 it does. Coincidence?

"The new version will contain all the same listings but come in a compact version that will fit through the letter box."

I rest my case.

p.s. you will never decipher the registration on the Jeep, one letter or number has been blurred in post.
p.p.s. this video has been transcoded up to 720 HD but it is not actually HD i.e. the resolution has been deliberately supressed.

You are correct Ron. Truth is we are livid with jealousy… who wouldn’t want to be a champ at “throwing-the-yellow-pages-book-into-a-thin-mail-box-slot” !!!

Well, I tend to believe you Simon, since you have much experience in the fields of the Internet and also filming and current video editing techniques.

But that is both shocking and scary if it is such a clever set up job.

It's going to make everyone in the future skeptical and paranoid about ANYTHING they see or hear.

It makes me think back to the time when sound recording began and technicians started to get nifty at tape splicing...so much so that courts of law refused to accept them as evidence in a trial.

It seems the high degree of sophisticated photo and video manipulation available now will make ANY such evidence worthless. (including "security" cameras...so the whole CCTV industry is just a waste of time now.)

As far as Yellow Pages are concerned, so long as the book is still compact enough to fit in my dustbin, then that suits me.
I currently pick it straight up off the doorstep and pop in straight in.

I may start practicing throwing it in from a distance now.

cheers,

Ron
