Could you post yourself doing a cover version of "Jumhoriyet Albi", by Mohammed Iskandar?

Ron!? Behave, now.

How in the name of all that is good did you find out about this song?

BBC World Service, Ramzi

Apparently all the Beirut taxi drivers love it and have it blasting out of their cabs.

I hear too that a female Lebanese singer has released a single which is a reply to his.

They played the song and it sounded OK to me...(but I don't understand Arabic )

(Sorta Lebanese "Gangsta" rap (only not rap) )

cheers,

Ron

Ron, it's amazing that you know more about stuff like this than I do. And I live in Lebanon!

It's a good thing that you don't know Arabic, or else you might have been appalled at what Iskandar was saying in his song. I tried searching for an English translation of the lyrics online, but couldn't find one straight away. I would have translated them myself, but I don't have time at the moment. Here is the message in a nutshell:

And here is the rebuttal song:

Ok you asked for it.

Here is my attempt at singing something.

I felt the need to try something different and although the end result is not great, it gave me some ideas for future recordings.

OMG... I loved it. Bravo KMMI77. We do have some serious talent here.
Perhaps it is time to allow a spin off to take place and add a new category to the Foro's lobby:

“FUNMENCO” Using Flamenco guitar and technique to play classical, pop, country or other forms and styles of music”.

There is a lively group, I noticed, who may enjoy posting and uploading thereunder. Including the undersigned lost soul.

I guess that's a slippery slope, there, GJ. I have a feeling we're going to get banned from the foro.

Thanks gj! It's always a bit scary uploading stuff like that. But as they say, If your afraid of failing you can never win.

I approve of FUNMENCO

You have been sliding down that slope for a while, amigo...

Thank you for your support, KMMI77.

Yes, Todd plays that very well. Nice, expressive and clean.

Hey rombsix. your voice seems to be the basis of a great singing voice.
What might be useful is to play scales on your guitar or something and then sing that scale as well, sounds kind of odd but it gives you greater controll over your voice, and even volume
Sounds great, good luck!

Thanks odinz! I actually AM doing that. I felt that it was helping out as you said it would. Gracias for your feedback! Anymore tips are always welcome as I'm an absolute beginner at singing.

RE: Singing and playing guitar simul... (in reply to rombsix

Thats great! Great way to to start out practicing.

For me, what is really helpful is posture!

Its not like i have the posture of an opera singer or something, but straightening up definatly helps to control your breathing:-)

So while playing guitar i guess you probably allready have a pretty good posture, but think straight back.

And when singing its allways good singing songs that match your vocal range.
But to expand your scale you can challenge yourself by singing more diverse songs,

You can practice vibrato.

I allways use Serj Tankian as a vocal reference for example. His singing fits my range.
Find your own reference singer that fits you to start practice.

And most important is to try to sing with your own viece, and not to try to copy other singers, this will make you strain and isnt natural

Just be natural about everything.. try to sustain a note for a longer and longer time etc..

And dont smoke!

Since you wanted to play guitar and sing simultaniously its important to practice both instruments at the same time.

So if its any help, try to play some really hard songs on the guitar slowely while singing them slowly, and play with tempo on everything

Hope this helps, good luck!

Odinz! Gracias for your response. I've been doing exactly what you're saying. I'll be corresponding with you about certain points, when I get to them - if you don't mind.

In the spirit of this thread, here is a treat.

RE: Singing and playing guitar simul... (in reply to odinz

So, I haven't been practicing much lately due to time constraints, but I decided to have another take at this song, trying to "open up" as Ricardo had suggested.

A continuation to the previous video. The first section of this video shows me singing without trying to "open up," while the second section of this videos shows me singing while trying to "open up." This results in a louder volume, but a different vocal quality as well. I am using a capo this time to make the song match my vocal range.

It was just a coincidence that I ended up wearing the same t-shirt in parts 1 and 2 of these videos.

Comments?

PS: Odinz, what is your email?

Here's a nice example I came across recently. Something to aspire to, Ramzi

Diego is great, obviously, Estevan. But what he is doing here is quite straightforward actually. Focus on what DIEGO is doing in terms of SIMULTANEOUS playing and singing, and you will see it's just a few chords here and there (simple down-strum), or if it's a pattern, it's a non-complicated and repetitive one.

What I was doing above with that Creed song is in my humble opinion MUCH harder. To be able to do COMPLEX accompaniment while at the same time doing the cante would be hard indeed, though...

Cheers!
