Great Game. Huge height difference between the teams. But the burning question is.. Where do you get one of those oracle octopus's?

ORIGINAL: chapman_g Typically, I am not a fan of German football because usually instead of going out and attacking they sit back and defend in numbers, and try to win games by counter-attacking in the spaces that have opened up because of the other team coming forward and attacking in numbers. So to be honest I usually hate to see them win because of that style of play. This particular German Team was a little different, a little more attack minded, but in this game looked like back to the same old same old Germany - sit back and defend and hope to get something on the counter- attack. Does not always work out that way, but in my opinion for the sake of football, the team doing that should always lose. Go España. Yes but Spain is a killer team. Not to be compared with England and Argentina. They were the favourite to win this world cup since the beginning. Many players in this spanish team know eachother since their childhood. They are all well attuned to eachother and they have excellent passing skills. And they played excellent football recently before the worldcup. You can't play wild attacks against such a team, specially if you have a team like Germany. We don't have Messi's and Villas. It could have ended like 3:0 for Spain if we would have played wild offensive football. German team have some very young, unknown and quite unexperienced players. The Idea to play deffensive and counter attacking was OK imo, the problem was that the Germans were simply BAD and weak today in executing the idea. And the other problem is simply that Spain is the best team . Argentina and England were nowhere near the level of Spain All in All, it was excellent for Germany. To be honest, i even didn't expected that we would come to semi-final (at the beginning of the world cup) with this young and unexperienced team. Good job Germany.

So they scored plenty goals against Australia, England, and Argentina well yes i hear you, they havent done much in the last 2 years but neither of them are bad sides and they were beaten convincingly, (and world cup is always another bowl of soup, you get dark horses and teams that just turn the rankings uspide down..eg..when grece won the european cup, or norway or danemark)....by that same token Spain lost to Switzeland ranked 24....and barely got through Paraguay ranked 31 and Portugal...so yes ...from what i had seen so far at this world cup ..Germany looked the more convincing side by convincingly beating higher ranked oposition..Australia ranked 20 , Argentina 7 , England 8 (dosent matter who you are or what they have done or their form Argentina and England are never to be taken lightly) and because of knee surgery Torres is so out of form that its painful to watch.. I guess unless they all play the same oposition its always hard to get an accurate idea of how good they really are in relation to eachother and even that can change on the day...Germany murdered Australia but lost to Serbia, Australia beat Serbia with that said, Spain doing brilliantly, i was wrong quote:
And no offense Flo, but we know Cricket is where the Australian strength is not football I am not getting offended but thats a litlle unfair just because they good at criket...the people playing soccer for Australia are people who dont play criket, they been playing football all their lifes, professional football players...its not the same people that decide to put down the bat and kick the ball around...all they do is play footbal and they play it in Europe....we are doing better than plenty of more respected European and South American teams for whom footbal is the national sport ....and arent that good at criket either FIFA RANKING

ranking in football doesn't make much sense, it's only there to have something to relate to when they do the seedings...the only event testing the teams' strength is the world cup itself... i can't even think of a system, it wouldn't make much sense...while Argentina play all their games against strong south american opponents, England, Spain, and whoever are having a hard time beating minnows of Europe, Australia was being bored to death in the Oceania qualifying, winning games 35-0...at least Asia has some decent teams that helps them prepare... i'll repeat what i said earlier, Germany was playing games against opponents that tried to attack and were punished on the counter by an efficient team, Spain played all of their games against teams set out to defend at all costs...it's much easier to score goals against an opponent that gives you space to work in...if their opponents had done that against Spain we could've seen 6-0 matches... those who said before that Germany will crush Spain were wrong either because they were fans of the team or its previous performances, don't watch much football, or didn't see all the games...

those who said before that Germany will crush Spain were wrong either because they were fans of the team or its previous performances, don't watch much football, or didn't see all the games well i wasent their fan before this world cup...i watch plenty of football, i used to play for about 7 years, in Romania and Australia...u got me on the last one, i missed the german game against Ghana and Serbia...was busy...all i know is when i turned on the tv they played beautiful positive football...and obviously ...if you going to play against good teams who know that they can score such as England and Argentina, they will come at you and they will try to score....thats the way it goes...a good team will work their tactics with that in mind...up to the Spain game Germany did that well, one cant fault them or dismiss them for that..no other team has ever won 3 times by 4 goals in the same world cup....for me they are a strong and deserving 3rd place in this world cup Also what made me think that Germany had a good chance was the fact that the goals came equaly from many different sources...Podolsky, Lham , Klose, Ozil..so even if you marked one of them effectivly you would still have the other 3 to deal with... With Spain it seemed to be all Villa more often then not..Torres is badly out of scorring form atm...and the other players could score but havent done so as often...so if you were to quiet Villa ...there was a more chance they wouldnt score.. infact if i was the coach of any of the Spanish opponent i would have told my defender to annoy and fustrate Villa litlle by litlle . ..(hes known for a bad temper...his fault for showing that weakness in one of the games, he slapped one of the defenders who was annoying him but didnt really do anything ...was just verbal, 2 out of 3 referees would have sent him off for that) and would eventually slip up in front of the ref and get himself kicked off
