ricardo's skype lessons

hey everyone,
i know ricardo isn't a product but i wanted to just quickly put a good word in about his skype lessons.

it was actually my first face to face (or rather, monitor to monitor?, you get what i mean) lesson with a flamenco teacher. ricardo was super patient and insightful. he noticed a lot of things that i never did especially, rhythmically, which we all know is super important.

we worked on a couple tomatito falsetas that i plan to use at my upcoming gig then he gave me some tips about performance in general.

the video and sound was clear, very easy to follow. then when the lesson is done, i was emailed a video of what we just worked on, which is really helpful, because some things i forget or i just need a reference.

everyone around here already knows how knowledgeable ricardo is, so that speaks for itself. so imagine getting lessons from the man himself. highly recommended!

How is the speed? Can you see the video in realtime?
I never did video lessons.

surprisingly, yes. maybe his webcam is just good.

i don't know how my side looked. but it didn't seem to be a problem because he was still able to notice small details.

i was also thinking about taking such lessons.
never did such thing before.
just online lessons with Jason, where the lessons are already there to watch.
yes, the speed must be good on both sides, like a smooth tel. conversation,, otherwise i can imagine that it will be annoying.
but i even don't have a webcam yet lol
but they are cheap and i am also going to buy a new PC in few days, so maybe a webcam is included.
lets see..

you need to watch out for those crappy cams that record with 15 fps or so. This will not give a smooth picture. Sometimes they write 30 but this is only with the worst quality. Any cam under 50€ will be waisted IMO. Especially guitar playing needs a good real time recording.

well, the first lesson is free, so if it doesn't work out, then no worries. i had a big microphone problem and my webcam takes hours to position but we still got through the first lesson and i learned a lot. it all worked out, and i had my second lesson just yesterday.

in the midst of confusion, i also got to meet his son and wife.

This really is great technology and great use of it

To be able to hook up in real time with an instructor who's thousands of miles away.

I'm lucky in that I can jump on my bike a visit and instructor each week for an hour but for those who can't, this really is as good as it gets.

I was signed up to Jimmy Bruno's Jazz Guitar lessons for a while and this involved uploading a video of my playing and waiting for his feedback. It was great.

It's also great that you get sent a video as a reminder of the lesson.

Cool stuff man

Ricardo knows his stuff and would be a great teacher for anyone interested in learning flamenco. He is a complete player, solos and accompaniment.

Very nice of you Jason. Thats a great thing to say about a fellow guitarrist. It should be always like that.

Ricardo's playing is easy to say great things about. He's a very cool guy and highly respectful of the art of flamenco. I remember the first time I saw Ricardo play, I was sitting in this very chair I sit in now.... Jesus Montoya asked me to give him my laptop... he went and pulled up a video of Ricardo playing an Eb bulerias..... I asked Jesus.... can he accompany?.... Jesus said he was very good at accompaniment... Pedro Cortes also has corroborated that Ricardo is a solid flamenco player with great cante, dance and solo chops.

Thanks guys! I have just started getting into this thing, so I was not going to announce it until I had a experimented and got lots of feedback first. at_leo_87 was just my 5th student trying it out. There were 2 guys in australia, 1 in holland, and 1 in Colorado so far, and all successful, not including some locals and friends. Just want to warn anybody who will sign up, my schedule can get pretty crazy but of course I will notify right away if we need to reschedule.

Thanks to Jason for backing me up too! You are the man! If you want man sign up for a time if you want to check it out just to see how the quality and everything is, or just to chat. You might want to try it for your own students in addition to your excellent vids.

Ricardo

woops.... my bad!

but imo, everything looks and sounds great for the most part. like sean65 said, this is great use of technology.

and a big woo hoo to musicians backing each other up. it's really cool to see that.
competition is pointless, imo. even as an amateur i feel it sometimes. it feels ugly. i can't even imagine what it's like for you pros.

Hey Ricardo, nice initiative!

I just checked your site, and I don't see any prices there?

Is it because you're still not sure of the prices and you're trying to see the reaction of people?

I might be interested (well it depends on the price of course, i'm still a poor student ).

Hey. Just follow the links to the live lessons on the top of the front page. Then scroll down on the instruction page to the "book now" icon. Another window opens with the prices and time frame. $20, $35, and $50. (Just realized the top book now button doesn't work. Gonna fix it, but the bottom one does work). About the same we guitar teachers charge for private lessons here in the states. The times are approximate minimums, I usually give everyone a little bit extra time, especially because technical issues might pop up.
