Hahaha, he's a great polish guy. I used to dj with him every weekend...this photo is about 6 or 7 years ago....he always dressed funny, but 2 years later it always seemed to become fashionable...at least overhere
I think he was actually visiualizing the limbo-stick with his fingers

I've learned a lot from Sir James Gallway when I was starting flute, but got interested in Mathies Ziegler when he plays the big bass flute with a loop pedal...very experimental.
MD, If I start seducing woman it all goes wrong, I'd rather have some fun....although the idea of playing a wonderfull granaina or rondena is very appealing.
No baby from 1 year old will be playing better, because you have been working on compas and picado this week isn't it?
If you like to borrow a shakuhachi, I've got 2 of them. The sound of bamboe is very nice and medative...

seduce those strings , im strangling them at the moment, bulerias compass, un paso un paso, but getting a few ideas , just needs playing with that metronome , and get the beats over the pulse , its gonna happen Kozz
i had a lot of fun with the irish whistle when last there, many ou can play songs in lile and hour ! pretty well

Hi Kozz!
If you are having trouble finding a rhumba that inspires you, It is a good excuse to write your own. That way you can make it as dark and dirty or light and pretty as you want.
I personally enjoy writing something for rhumba as much as something for solea or siguiriyas. I never feel that one is of greater value than the other. Just because it is in 4/4, i still get the same inspiration when i find an idea that satisfies me. I then play it over and over again like i do with any other falseta that i like. Don't let the 4/4 is easy mentality deceive you. There are heaps of untouched ideas for rhumba IMO.
I am sure there is a rhumba for you as well. Don't bother with the ones that don't inspire you. I have recorded a few rhumbas and although i have recorded extra guitar parts. They were all solo rhumbas to begin with and i play them as solos so you don't need extra guitars.

Hi KMMI, funny you mention it...I dreamed about it last night. It was a droning type of rumba...if remember well, Ricardo made a comparision like with Billy Jean from MJ....
It opens up a lot more freedom indeed tryiing to compose myselves...I'll see what I can make of it.....it'll be a fakumba™

I was talking to friend of mine about music in dreams. I have had a few occasions where i have dreamt of a piece of music being played on guitar. When i wake up i can never really remember it but i do know that there was something about it that was completely different and cool.
I wish i could put my finger on it so i could work it out.

Thanks Ramzi, I'll start with some strokes and a easy cadance, and than'll come back later.
Or maybe you can record a "dark" rumba as example...its only 2 minutes work for you
There must be something good about...so I just need to find out.

I was unsure if i was happy with it to start but after going away and coming back to it i was. It took so much work to get everything into the right space that i will never play that tune again. lol
Hee KMMI, I just woke up and wanted to listen but I am having some audioproblems atm, and dont feel like fixing because I've only got 1 coffee yet. I'll listen later on when I am at work...

What I don't get about guys who absolutely dominate the instrument playing things like Bulerias and Tangos etc. is why they would stoop to playing Rumbas in the style of gipsy kings. There are plenty of rumbas out there that are more a solo piece and can be challenging and fun to play.
Off the top of my head, Herencia Latina, La Lola, Rumbeando la Milonga - all by Paco Pena - La Feria by Juan Martin - (Sorry, broke the JM PP rule again) I think Paco de Lucia has one called Rumba Improvisada. Like these or not, they are good benchmark pieces which show how arpegiated chords can be used to create the Rumba rythmn.
As far as a darker or deeper Rumba, I can't get enough of "Tres Notas para decir Te Quiero" by Vicente Amigo. Awesome. (still on the happy side but amazing nonetheless)
The solo Rumba style of Juan Serrano from "La Tempestad" is one that I would avoid. (a little strumming and a fill, a little strumming and a fill, a little strumming and a fill, ad nauseum)
So overall I'd agree with the poster who suggested that you wrtie your own.
As controversial a figure as he is, the Professor Diaz (who is completely dominating youtube btw) has a great vid on the arpegios for rumbas in the style of Paco de Lucia. That could be the basis of a great original.

If you like singing, try Parrita, most flamencos like his rumbas a lot. Mainly they are canciones (songs) not cante, but he has a very powerful flamenco feeling and voice.

Well, it is really fun. But honestly just to strum properly takes a lot of work. Took me many years to even get "accepted" as a rhythm guitarist amongst those types of gitanos, and I am sure there are some who think I am still not so great. Lead guitar is something else, and they usually respect flamenco guitarists a lot. But if you were into the singing, again that is the main reason for playing that music, those songs are fun to sing in a group.
This is me with canut and andre reyes of the Gipsy Kings a couple years ago. They picked me to back em up with lead guitar over some local pro rumberos, I think because they knew I was more of a flamenco player.

There number of parts ranges from 3 to 12, Pretty over the top. I started out recording it as a solo. Then i added another part. Then i started to hear more ideas and i thought, I am just going to keep going and see what it sounds like. I tried to be careful to give it enough space and separation to allow all the parts to be heard and maintain the feeling of the song. I allowed myself to feel free and just see what happens without trying to be flamenco or gypsy style. Not sure what i would classify the end result as.
I normally get annoyed with people who record music that they can't reproduce live on there CD's but i guess i fit into that category now. I mean, i could reproduce it live with enough guitarists but it's unlikely people would be willing to pay for such a gig. lol.

Ricardo, is that a whole other culture, and do they have the same "things" as flamenco people have? Like old-skool and nuevo....I dont want to start that discussion, but find it interesting if it is so.
