Awesome News, my wife likes my Music.

Awesome News, my wife likes my Music. Out of nowhere, my wife called me last night –I am travelling- and asked me to send her the one piece I managed to record (I complained long enough here that an injury prevented my ambitious plan to record a CD last Christmas). She later called and, for the first time, articulated the most touching praises about my little composition. It made me so happy. And wanted to share it with you guys. See, music means much more to me than the time I can dedicate to it would suggest, and inevitably my wife’s “cute” unimpressed reaction to it never settled well with me. I am getting old… I uploaded that piece before, but in case it is here below (and by the way, I hesitated to mention this earlier, but it is dedicated to our Jim Opfer, whose youtube work infinitely inspired me to obsess over Flamenco, or Spanish guitar, or whatever this is that I like to play) www.dynastygallery.com/corrado

Aw, that's such a sweet story - beautiful music too. Always nice when your partner appreciates the music you make (they seem to love the fact that it's 'you' playing, admire your talent, and feel proud they're with someone who has musical passion in their soul). I have written lots of songs (songs with words, that is) for my wife and though she loves me to sing them for her, I am unfortunately rather shy about playing them. With the guitar it's different - I'm more relaxed. Last night she said 'play that funny thing, you know that funny fast thing you do, it sounds really good' - by this, she means tremolo :) And this morning she declared 'you're really good, you know, you could be one of the best" !!!! I mumbled something to the effect of 'Hmm, maybe if I'd been born in Andalucia and started playing when I was 5' :) Isn't there an old saying to the effect that 'in the eyes of his dog, every man is a god' - NOT that I'm comparing my wife to a dog !:)

Thank you, Everyone, for the kind words about my composition and for sharing your own on the sweetly cynic relation we have with wives and guitars. I did record this piece with my beloved "pseudo-brazilian-yet-striking-and-therefore-worth-the-price-paid" Conde negra (well worded, pacowannabe –and thank you for your flattering lines). At_Leo, your question is encouraging. Yes, I have 7 serenades and am now planning a break to record them. Thank you Ron, Arash and Doitsujin (I think you all felt the hard-to-die Italian in me betraying the depth of an inevitably romantic upbringing). Michel, it is interesting you perceived my music as that of a “storyteller”. All I compose starts out as a song, with lyrics and a story to tell. But then just like MarkChris, I get shy about the singing, and let the guitar sing its stories. Thank you, really. gj

quote:
Michelob... Listening to it, I felt like I was intruding into something quite private and special. Thank you Florian and Cathulu. That was a line to remember, Blacksheep. At the risk of being forever marked and mocked as the incurably romantic, I will share the lyrics which I had written for that serenade. It speaks to my daughter Giulietta, whom I miss when business takes me far from her, back to New York for 2 weeks every month, to further my professional ambitions. It is the last thing I play before I call it a night. Giulietta’s Italian-Chinese traits make her quite an exotic little beauty, a bit middle-eastern or andalucian looking. Of course, as many fathers, all I do I do for her… but it is hard for her to understand, yet. Serenade n. 3 When you look up the sky/ From wherever you are/ Can you see the moon smile/ And know that however far/ I maybe/ I can see the same moon reflected in your eyes/ In your eyes/Sweet gambling dice I see my fall and rise/ As I try to be someone in your eyes/ This Faraway night/ Restless with ambitions and dreams/ Conjures a candle-light like/ wavering image of me/ Confused gleams/ Like distant fireworks coloring your eyes/ In your eyes/ Shifting sea-tides/ My fortune comes and goes blind/ As I try to be someone in your eyes/ Good night my love/ Good night my love under a blanket of white clouds/ They hide the moon’s light/ like doubts/ And then she breaks free to roll about in her open skies/ As dark as the magic in your eyes/
