mrMagenta -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 5:52:06)

page 3 and 4 are offline. it says: yahoo service temporarily down

I would join this challenge, but I'm already familiar with this Herrero piece. Perhaps I'll try the intermediate.. (gulp)

small detail: I noticed he does a golpe which isn't marked in the tab, it's on beat 3, measure 6 on page 3.

i havent looked at it..i spent hours trying to fix the writting up...its a really confusing way the way he writes his tab...the numbers that make up the tab chords werent exactly underneath eachother...hes got some weird style of writing ...looked more like arrpegio than chords...took me ages to try and line em up...it unecesarrely looked more complicated than it needed too.

hopefully others will see your note..

You are welcome [;)] i thought it might come in handy expecially for members new to bulerias

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 6:38:00)

having seen you play before i'd say you're definitely up to the intermediate challenge, don't be shy :)

Exitao -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 7:38:36)

Hmmmm...

Question:

You don't mention it and I'm not sure how you measure it as a judge, or how much leeway we have...

The "normal" recording is 208bpm, so this is what we aim for, I suppose (I've never played that fast [&o] ).

Can you make us an "official" palmas/compas track?
I mean, considering it's a set piece, with a set bpm, we don't need a loop (but it would be useful to have one for practice anyway), a compas track that finishes when we should finish might be a good idea...

sure why not...i wil provide a official compas track for practice atleast...those that know how to and wanna use it for the final Entry can do so

Exitao -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 7:54:45)

Je. Just burn it to a CD and play it in the background?

Florian -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 8:04:43)

Heres a loop you can use approx the same speed ...if you use this and play it correctly to it you would infact get more swing then the original audio..

this is the exact same legth as your challenge

You can chose to use this in your final upload or do it without...up to you guys

U can do it that way...ideally you wanna use it in a multitrack...that way its nice and clear and perfect quality as you hear it now...without the room reverb...

but thats a whole other thread[:D]...you can do it your way too

Florian -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 9:31:39)

rombsix -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 10:36:19)

Theoretically, count me in! If I get too overwhelmed with studies, is it OK to just NOT submit my MP3? [:D]

Ailsa -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 10:38:58)

El Camino -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 10:41:22)

Pgh_flamenco -> Recording Advice (Jan. 27 2009 10:45:06)

Any suggestions regarding inexpensive recording equipment, software, how to edit, how to record one track while playing the compas track, etc.?

Ailsa -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 10:59:26)

Tabs are down again and have been for the last hour. I reckon the site is jammed by hundreds of flamenco guitar students all round the world downloading them to join in the challenge [:D][:D][:D]

[:D] i feel gulty cause i just brushed you off before when u asked...is just so much to it lol...

There is probably some free software out there...maybe some members here can suggest some to you....or some trial software that will have a multytrack option and let you record for this challenge...( I use cool edit pro for multi track..its simple, and probabably not that expensive )

that means that you can play one track and at the same time record on the other...(your soundcard has to support it...i cant remember the term they use...Duplex ?)

but if u have an half decent soundcard it should

Aside from that you need a microphone ..Depends on what you want but theres all kinds of good mics ranging from cheap to expensive..(maybe some experts could offer you some good names ...depending on what you want)..I use Rode..my model is probably not that expensive in the Us now...Look around on Ebay

Last thing you need if your soundcard dosent have it is a mixer...to go from the Microphone into the Soundcard..(the kind of mixer you need depends on the microphone you have)

The Bheringer mixers that are very good and they start from about $50 ...u dont need anymore then one or two chanels so you can even go for the cheapest..
2 lines

Let me know of what you have ?

what soundcard...what kind of software...any mics ? any mixer ? headphones ?

Also i hope other members who know more about names...prices can join in and give you some suggestions

rombsix -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 11:33:45)

OK Ailsa. I'll go for the intermediate challenge then. [:)]

This wasn't directed to you, Flo. I wanted everyone else to offer advice and a description of their recording setups.

I have a Soundblaster Audigy card, a microphone from a language program that doesn't work very well and Vegas software.

I was planning on recording the compas track to a cassette tape for play back and then recording with a mic or webcam--which I have to buy.

Any suggestions regarding a microphone or webcam?

Alonte -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 12:37:24)

Technically my first post but, Count me in!

Stu -> RE: Challenge, Beginners Thread (Jan. 27 2009 13:01:12)

Anders mentioned this one which sounds like a great deal especially for the price, and simple if you aren't ready to shell out on recording gear -
http://www.amazon.com/Samson-CO1U-USB-Condenser-Mic/dp/B000AP1RE8
I think I'll look at one of these myself [:)]
