ORIGINAL: Miguel de Maria Hey, I wrote something on that thread. I told one of those guys that "abanico" refers to Gipsy King strumming, and not to "Marote" rasgeaduos, but I got shot down, No, they are the same thing, Mike. Abanico=Marote=fan=triplet ras. Basically, a ras produced as a result of forearm rotation, commonly played in tiplets with P completing two out of the three strokes, although as usual there are many variations. The lack of conventions in flamenco often makes things (even more) confusing, yet you can find books or quality transcriptions where only one of these terms will be used exclusively, yet they are clearly talking about the same thing. Eg Juan Martin calls it the triplet ras, the guy who transcribed Tomatito's stuff for the Encuentro video calls it abanico. Jon
