Hi Sean,
It was quite a sudden shock to read that!

Gosh, it only seems like a few years ago I got the Album "Dos Guitarras en HispanoAmerica" and thinking he looked like a 50's "teddy boy" [:D]
Yet I was only 19 or so...
Time passes so quickly.

I spoke to him for a while in Madrid and was quite surprised how soft spoken and unassuming he was.

Great guitarist.

cheers,

Ron

What a pity!
The frst time I heard him was with his brother back in the early seventies...

I dunno leo, but he died of "something".
Everybody dies of "something"...
Nobody's ever died of "nothing".
The Doctors always have to put "something" on the death certificate.
(Lack of breathing etc [:D])

What does it matter? It happens.

I loved John Lennon's honest words when he was told Brian Epstein had died when he (Lennon) was on holiday somewhere at the coast on the UK.

The TV cameras were there and somebody interviewed him on a pretty cold and windy beach and asked him what was the first thing he thought when he heard the news that day.

Lennon, in his usual naive and honest way, pushed his hand through his hair, disorientated and very genuinely in complete shock and answering the question honestly said, " Well I was totally stunned...but I suppose the first thing I thought in the back of my head was just the same as everybody else.... Thank F*ck it's not ME!" [:D][:D]

Of course people all over the UK were shocked and outraged by his comments and John couldn't understand why...[:D]

Maybe that's what made him such a good songwriter?

I sorta guess from your question that maybe you are quite a young guy? (under 30?)

That's why you have got to really think about what you want to do, where you want to go and not be swayed by what other people think of your choices.

It really DOES pass quickly! No joke!

All my heros are dropping off the twig now!

cheers,

Ron

i'm starting to learn and it's definitely not easy. trying to discern honest, truthful advice versus brainwash. sometimes makes me wish i can live the simple life of a grizzly bear or something.

Very sad. I didnt know him personally but got a guitar which came from his hands. Well,..as we all know, the time will come for each of us. I hope he had a good life!

Matic -> RE: Ramón de Algeciras (Jan. 21 2009 13:24:37)

He was great. I really enjoy his videos with Camaron.

It all made me think. Ron's replies and all. When in life does a man stop thinking he's immortal? Really...

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: Ramón de Algeciras (Jan. 21 2009 13:54:19)

it's probably when we see people passing away that we knew or admired and are no longer enjoying the comfort of our parents taking care of us...
but this kind of enlightenment must be a different experience for everyone...

Sometimes you see people (mostly very old people) who have a smile on their face and are "ready" without any fear.
How does it happen that you get such a feeling? I cant imagine how.
Must be a biological process in the brain which automatically takes the fear of death when you get very old.
On the other hand, not all very old people have this attitude.

el ted -> RE: Ramón de Algeciras (Jan. 21 2009 23:42:18)

Sad news.

mark indigo -> RE: Ramón de Algeciras (Jan. 22 2009 13:01:20)

imagine teaching your kid brother, and him going onto become.... Paco! and then playing second guitar with him.... i never knew or met him (tho' saw him play a few times), but he had to have been a humble and generous person. RIP

"Everyone knows they're going to die - but noone believes it"

(not necessarily an exact quote)

Matic -> RE: Ramón de Algeciras (Jan. 22 2009 14:59:26)

I think it's when you are faced with a death of someone you identify with in a way that you see yourself/someone like you in that person.
Like a death of a coeval, parents, idol...
