Can anybody tell me how antique guitars came about their names ?
(i.e. La Leona, La Invencible, La Suprema etc.)
Who named them and why?

These are names of famous Torres guitars-- only La Leona was named by Torres. The others were named by their owners.

There is another La Leona, the Santos owned and played by Ramon Montoya. I would bet that he (Montoya) gave the guitar it's name. The other Santos I know of is La Bon Bon, which was his personal guitar. It used to be owned by a player in NYC and it is truly a little gem. Lovely guitar.

One other Santos is La Inedita (not sure of the spelling) this guitar was a classical that he had intended for Segovia and then later refused to show it to him when Segovia came back raving obout Hauser. He (Segovia) had shown Hauser his Manuel Ramirez guitar, which was made by Santos, for him to copy. Santos kept the guitar and let anyone who wished to play it, except Segovia. Santos was known to be a touchy guy although in this case I don't think many can blame him for being ticked off.

I used to name my guitars years ago but gave it up. Eventually it seemed rather silly and pretentious to me. That and I ran out of really good names.

aaron

Here's the story on the inedita.

Are the whereabouts known, of La Inédita? I'd like to buy it for use as a campfire guitar.
