ORIGINAL: mrMagenta Ricardo, Jason, Buddha - Do you guys mind if i use parts of your posts for compiling a basic theory primer for the chord list? You'll be credited for it of course. Yes of course you can. I turned the doorknob and cracked the door open...... Ricardo just kicked it wide open.[;)] It is very generous of Ricardo to take the time to explain all of that. It is a lot, but like I said before, don't feel like you need to learn it all in one sitting. When I was a kid, I learned it in a classroom situation nice and slow and repetitive. each new concept was introduced gradually giving me time to explore it and I was able to find examples in the music that I listened to and in turn learned to use the concepts in my own music. There is a big difference in memorizing a bunch of facts and learning to apply them to your own personal creative process. If you "discover" these concepts for yourselves , they won't seem so much like "rules". They will just become things that help you identify whats going "under the hood" in the music that you like, whether its someone else's music or the music "in your head".
