If you click on his advert you'll find that this chap has whacked out quite a few CD recordings, described as "Nuevo Flamenco," so somebody is buying his stuff. Do we another 'J##n Mart#n in our midst?

El Ted has got a point...its eazy to sitt here and criticize everyone that plays guitar and isnt Paco, I know [:D] its very eazy to fall in that... but at some point we need to be aware of the big picture...

we all benefit because of guitarists like Armik, Gispy Kings, Otmar, Juan

for students, gigs whatever...expecially outside Spain but i imagine even in Spain

like it or not they are reaching a wide audience and some of that audience because of that wants to hire flamenco, buys a cd, goes to a flamenco concert, has guitar lessons, buys a flamenco guitar ( ok not all but if 1 or 2% of that audience buy a cd or go to a concert we have allready benefited, some wont majority will buy flamenco nuveo etc..but some will look deeper in Flamenco...thats our people [;)])

u have to accept that majority of the general population dont know and dont care about real flamenco...if this guys are able to some how reach and capture theyr imagination somehow ...they must be doing something right....how can they not be ? if so many people like what they do ? enough to buy their albums ...enough to make them well known even to us

at the end of the day music shouldnt be for other musiceans or something only musiceans should get or enjoy...the idea is to include everyone else...

ps.. For some reason i am having a very politically correct month [8|] (I dont know why i cant shake the f*ing thing) i reserve the right to go back to my selfish, politically incorrect, imature, inconsiderate ways...as soon as i shake this stupid guilt [&:]...its EXAUSTING trying to be correct ALL the time [:D][:D]


and i dont want anyone to think i am criticizing cause I am not, i know u guys are joking ! i some of u might remember i was the worst at this sort of things lol...just expresing my personal feelings atm on the subject...I really think this guys deserve a litlle more respect from us or atlist not to be paid out on our public forum which could be read by anyone and affects our reputation, theirs etc...in the end we all lose...

I agree with Florian.
It's arrogant to pan another musician when he's not making any claims to be a master of the kind of music you personally like.

Anyway, criticizing the people who advertise with us, thus helping support the Forum financially is kinda like biting the hand that feeds you.

I bet Oprah Winfrey is too smart to slag off her advertisers after returning from the commercial break! [:D]

Agreed. I think we should ALL buy one of his CD's and give them to someone as a Christmas present. I know my silver haired old mummy would prefer that to a disc of seguiriya!

I am greek ortodox for my birthday, jewish for xmass and plan to turn muslim when i am about 40 incase i want the option of more then one wife without the guilt (because i am a honorable man, i dont wanna cheat...anybody that has 3 wifes and still cheats on them has absoluteley no idea what the word commitment means)......oh and I am a atheist if any church knocks on my door for donnations..

I am prety sure i am cool with Scienthology cause i have seen every Tom Cruise movie...and Budha is cool..very forghiving so he will probably forghive me if i was wrong....

I find Armik's thing interesting, because he's not like JM who actually plays flamenco (even if not as well as Paco [:D]), but all of his CDs (I used to listen [:'(]) have nothing to do with flamenco. They all sound the same and are just smooth jazz with a flamenco guitar. So I was surprised to see this guitar course looks like it actually teaches, well, flamenco.

Incidentally, I was brought in to this lovely tradition by listening to Ottmar Liebert (proud to say I still do), so I totally concur with the point that as much as someone like Armik harms flamenco, there's also a tangible service he provides, too.

lol Florian, I'm glad you're cool with Scientology, but I'm most certainly not. They're not just crazy, they're *actually* evil. Have you heard about what they do with dissenters? Scary stuff. I can tell you about it sometime!

Actually it was Armik who contacted me to record for his label Bolero Records. They had me me replace a Rondeña, Solea, Fandangos and the YouTube Eb Phrygian Bulerias that has recieved over half a million views......

Replaced with commercial rumbas......... [:'(]

There is only one person who plays as well as Paco.

Armik is a very nice and helpful guy though. No complaints and the label treated me well.

He's not teaching flamenco though. He's teaching his music geared mainly to his fans. The recording industry is ruff at the moment and artists are searching for alternatives to support their families, which was my motivation in signing a contract with Bolero-records in the first place.

Ah, Jason, I heard that story a number of times now, but I never realized you were actually signed to Armik's label and it was them who forced you to do that.

Is there another version of your CD available by now, with the other tracks not replaced? I'd love to hear a studio version of your Eb bulerias...

No. Distancias is still partly controlled by Bolero. But......

The original Distancias tracks weren't recorded in a studio...... they were recorded in a closet on a Roland VS 1680. They were mixed however in a nice studio by Cookie Marenco who did what she could to help.

Bolero didn't force it, they just asked me if I wanted to do it. After discussing it with my family and closest friends, I decided to take the deal. I don't regret it. Although, they probably should have left this bulerias on the CD considering its popularity on YouTube.

Olee Jason ...I like that bueria !...love the way it starts...this would have made a great Jaleo too expecially the first part.. I love the jaleo timing and feel...havent explored it that much
