no thanks![&:]

surely applying a little glue or lacquer is one thing, but to take pills for strong nails seems a bit odd.

maybe it would come under performance enhancing drugs and all flamencos would have to be tested to see if they'd used it or not.[:D]

Yeah, IMHO taking pills for stronger nails is too much, I would rather go for acrylic. I need some pills for my bulerias compas though [;)]

i have always had weak nails and take 750mg of a calcium-magnesium supplement every day for two years now. my nails became ridiculously hard and thick after two weeks.

no more polishes for me, just a thin line of crazy glue on the edge. trust me, calcium is the way to go. they also grow faster.

Amen!

No way supplements can strengthen you nails in just two weeks!
Nails grow about 1mm per week, so it takes at least 3 to 4 months before supplements can show an effect (the nail grows from it's bed, i .e. where the cuticle is).

So your nails hardened because of something else.

Right, Ed - that's what I was thinking.

So I'd like to know what the "something else" is.

You bet I would too![:-]

Doug, did you dip your fingers in the film developer or something?[sm=rolleyes.gif]

then maybe its the placebo effect! but seriously i do believe that my nails grow faster with these supplements. if nail growth can slow because of a poor diet, then the converse must be true.

trust me, i literally scratched my face washing it because i was so unused to having such hard nails.

my ex-girlfriend was a nutritionist and she said vit d was the key to making calcium have its maximum retention. so i did up my intake of milk also.

I saw in a report that nowadays they put so many chemical supplements in all processed foods that not only is it unhealthy, but also any kind of supplement pill has become completely unnecessary. Don't know if this counts for calcium as well.

I have my acrylic gel tips and my UV lamp and it works for me [:)]

The practice of taking a calcium supplement only had face validity. It turns out the best way to build stronger bones is to lift weights. Bones react by becoming stronger as muscles place greater tension on them.

I heard recently that taking a calcium antacid tablet before eating a meal helps reduce fat levels. The fat and calcium bond and are excreted. Doing this daily can help a person purge about ten pounds of ingested fat per year.

well i heard if you mix up one sprig of mistletoe, some deadly nightshade, four gypsy tears and a rotton frogs leg in 250ml of purified water, put it through a food processor and drink it, you will have picado just like paco.

edguerin -> RE: strong nail (Dec. 19 2008 22:48:28)

No, no, no,
it's not purified water!
Manzanilla for Paco, Osborne for Moraito ...

You might want to try it without the "deadly nightshade" first.

One guy on the internet swears by dipping his nails in olive oil every day - and, once a week, dipping them in egg yolk (zinc). The general aim is to make nails moister. more flexible and therefore less brittle.
