Phil -> PdL's Picado Revisited (Jun. 4 2004 2:12:49)

I was watching PdL on the Rito y Geografia series from about 1972 and it suddenly struck me that he plays extremely close to the bridge. Since I've become aware of this, I've been watching other guitarists and I haven't noticed anyone else that plays as close to the bridge as he does. Not even Tomatito, who started out as a PdL clone. Has anybody here noticed this?
Phil

The force he uses might have something to do with it. That guy plays hard. Also, it seems he pulls directly "up" with his picado, there's little or no angle to his attack.

Miguel and Ron,
I'm alive and well and living about 5 kms. outside of Moron de la Frontera. Thanks for asking. I don't have a phone in my house, so my access to the Internet is very limited. I went through withdrawal syndrome the 1st month, but I'm recovering. I've become very aware of how much time I used to spend on the Internet.

It may sound good that I live near Moron, but the truth is that I haven't been to any Flamenco performances or taken any lessons in the 4 months I've been living here.My problem has always been - when I have the time I don't have the money and when I have the money I don't have the time.[&:]

There's a great fiesta today in Moron - Jose Merce, Luis Zambo, Moraito, Paco del Gastor, Daniel Mendez, Miguel's friend Eduardo Rebollar and more. Unfortunately, it's open to pena members only. I kept putting off joining and finally went over on Friday to sign up only to be told that they aren't accepting any new members until AFTER today's fiesta. They're worried that there won't be enough room for everybody. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all.[:(] I'm planning on going to the Potaje Gitano festival in Utrera later this month and I just found out today that they're almost sold out of tickets and I can't find out where to buy the tickets. So, here I am in Spain and Ron has probably seen more Flamenco in Scotland than I have.

As for guitar lessons - I still can't play half the material I got from El Carbonero. So I'm not really looking for lessons. What I'd really like to do is learn cante accompaniment. One of these days I'll have to ask Estela if she can hook me up with someone.

This is getting kind of long. I bet that now you're sorry you asked how I was. [:D]

Take care and keep practicing.
Phil

PS. Has anyone heard from Melchor recently?

Phil,
you can't play the blues if you don't got the blues! :)
Guess you were just born under a bad sign.

Tell me about it Phil!
Hope you can make it to an Internet Cafe every now and then to keep in touch.
Send me an email and tell me how you're doing amigo!

cheers

Ron
