falsetanuova, Is there really an need for an armrest? Are these just for comfort? I am being serious and NOT trying to be sarcastic. I am genuinely interested in your response. All the years I've been playing, I have never thought of the idea that I needed some type of attachment for comfort. I don't play classical music so perhaps it comes down to the way of holding the guitar, in the classical position, that makes playing uncomfortable. I'm assuming that after a while, having your arm rest on the somewhat sharp edge of the guitar, tends to get unfomfortable. The armrest provides a rounded edge? I think holding the guitar in anyway for an extended period of time gets uncomfortable. For me, it's never my arms but my legs. I'll go from crossed, to both feet on the flour to a footstool.

If it does, I don't think it is so much that something like this is necessary. Not many people use these. At least not in the flamenco world and our guitars have to be loud enough to cut through palmas and footstomps. The arm dampening the sound does not appear to be a big problem. So, I thought this device was for comfort. Sort of like the way a lot of electrics, Fender Strats for example, have the body contoured to have more "arm comfort".

Guess we don't have many classical players here huh? I know of no flamenco players who use armrests, or footstools for that matter. Must be something about the classical style that makes people seek out the best in physical comfort or something.

quote: An armrest can be very useful for large persons,(1,95m) a frend of mine use one for a long time cause backproblems. http://plasencia.web-log.nl/plasencia/2006/08/cushion_support.html there's a long (and possibly, if you're not that interested, quite boring) thread about this on the luthier section which i started by asking if anyone made large/oversized guitars and if it was possible.... i am 6'2" and have had endless back and neck pain hunching over what seems to me like a tiny guitar. for me, the proportions are all wrong, my forearm is too long to rest my upper arm/elbow on the guitar and for my hand to hang naturally so my fingers are on the strings.... i practically have to rest my wrist on the guitar for my fingers to be in the right place over the strings. the plasencia guy explains it here: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v509/Plasencia/?action=view¤t=P9075019.flv and crossing one leg over the other seems to result in twisting my spine, and pain in my back, neck and wrist/hand/finger tendons.... plus i had a cartilage operation on my left knee and it can't take much pressure of resting the other ankle on it.... so, unflamenco as it may be (has any one ever seen a gitano use a "gitano"? i don't think so), and naff as it may be (i've been through so much pain and been unable to play at all for weeks, so i don't care what i look like anymore so long as i can play) i do use a guitar support ("gitano") under the guitar, which sorts the bottom half of the equation (ie i don't have to cross one leg over the other) but i still have the problem where i am resting my right forearm on the edge of the guitar almost at the wrist.... ....so some thing that sticks on the front edge of the lower bout would be ideal..... i just can't afford $100. the "gitano" rest thing cost about £20, so i'd pay about that for a right arm rest, but i really can't afford more..... the plasencia thing would probably not suit my as it is too likely to move when i change between pulgar position and picado postion.... i might have sent off for one anyway just to try it if the exchange rate hadn't just crashed.... the webpage for the thing does sound a bit like one of those emails that go straight to spam on my pc tho' quote: PLASENCIA The Guitar Enlarger hmmmm.... quote: feel the difference .... for a really satisfying result. ooh-er....

since I do play classical and use an arm rest (Plenosom) and find them very comfortable you may want to post over on the Delcamp forum,, www.delcamp.net/forum go into the Luthier section and there is a for sale section there,, don't believe you will receive the comments you have here,, love some of the photos posted,, people sure are interesting,, just curious when you say it is held on with magnets, are they placed inside the body and then there is metal on the actual armrest to hold it there,,?? thanks Derry I just check out his web site and he list the arm rest as a $150 option during the build,, there is nothing about purchasing as a single item or add on to other guitars or how it actually works,,
